Whoops, I read that as "re-signs" when I first saw it.

I was hoping he'd end up in Pittsburgh. I might have made them fire me and get what was left on the contract. Then, in 2 years when 4 or 5 guys lose their jobs, your name gets on top of the pile after a season or two off. Just like the NFL where a guy goes 35-50, loses his job, and then they say "Oh, he hasn't coached in a while, he is going to be our guy."

I don't think so, that's business. I actually like what LA is doing, there's a great candidate out there, and they're going to go out and get him. So many teams have to settle for someone worse when they end up firing their manager after anyways, when someone good was available in the offseason. Plus, they had clubhouse problems and their team completely disappeared down the stretch.

Torre is what that clubhouse and franchise needs, as the luster of Blue has fallen recently. He is very good as managing personalities, as they are incorporating youth into their lineup alongside standbys like Kent, etc.

McCourt had picked up Grady's option for 2009
To have Coletti say if Grady hadn't quit he would have been the manager is just laughable. I HOPE Grady got paid for 2008 and 2009. I only knew Ned Colletti from when he was the PR guy at the Cubs and even in the late 80's Sharon Pannazzo did all the work. BTW Sharon seems to have fallen off the face of the earth since she was fired by the Cubs last year. |
