Default How good will Tim Lincecum be?

This guy has posted UNGODLY numbers in his minor league career thus far -

http://www.thebaseballcube.com/playe...Lincecum.shtml

And this year he is continuing in AAA

http://www.baseballamerica.com/today....php?id=453311

25 IP - 32 K's - a .80 WHIP - .36 ERA...

But Tim Redding and countless others had great numbers in the minors - So...

How good will Lincecum be?

The truly amazing thing is that all of the minor league stops he has made have been in a hitter's league and a hitter's ballpark. Physically he looks like a right-handed Billy Wagner, and at this point I would say he projects to be something like a starting version of him, which is incredible. I would imagine he's got one or two starts left in the minors before he joins Frisco...

Then you think Lincecum could be a top 3 pitcher in baseball, as Santana is the only pitcher with better numbers than the uber-consistantly awesome Oswalt...

Pretty big shoes to fill, it should be interesting

Lincecum yesterday:

6 IP, 3 HA, 0 ER, 0 BB, 14 K's

Struck out the side two innings in a row and threw 62 of 86 pitches for strikes.

I'm guessing the Giants are waiting for Ortiz to pitch even less mediocre because talent like this shouldn't stay in AAA.

Is this guy worth picking up now in a 12 team non-keeper fantasy league right now?

Looks like Lincecum might get his first shot this Sunday

Quote:
Right-hander Tim Lincecum, who has overmatched the Pacific Coast League with Triple-A Fresno, is the probable starter for Sunday's series finale against the Philadelphia Phillies at AT&T Park. Lincecum would replace Russ Ortiz, who went on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with right elbow neuritis.

I hope he gets the call, they'll be on ESPN Sunday against Philly and I'd love to see this kid throw.

Lincecum is starting Sunday night in San Francisco. The game will be on ESPN.

I'm excited about this guy.

I wasn't watching the game, but it looks like he battled some wildness.

4.1 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 5 BB, 5 K

He definitely looked a bit nervous and made a few mistakes that led to some homers. But the kid did seem to have a lot of life on this fastball and you could see why he was so successful in the minors.

He threw 98 in the first, and 91 in the 4th.

I watched the first two innings for the most part. He was getting torched by leaving his fastball a bit too high. If he gets that thing low in the zone, he'll have a lot more success. Throwing that fast, he's gonna give up HR's. Howard just sat fastball and muscled it over the fence. With experience he might pitch inside and saw him off, or try beating him offspeed.
