Default Leo Daigle named Carolina League Player of the Year

The Topps Company of New York, in conjunction with Minor League Baseball, announced its George M. Trautman Awards on Tuesday, awarded annually to the Player of the Year in each of 16 affiliated leagues. The 2005 winners represent 14 different Major League teams, including two each from the Arizona Diamondbacks and Milwaukee Brewers.

Leo Daigle's Triple Crown at Winston-Salem assured the White Sox farmhand of the award in the Carolina League...
.341 AVG with 29 HRs and 112 RBIs. Not too shabby when you consider he got those totals in only 108 games.

Congrats!

I don't care how old you are or what level you're at, that is serious mashing.

Don't get too attached to him

Leo Daigle - 1B - Orioles
Orioles signed first baseman Leo Daigle to a minor league contract.
Daigle put up some of the best numbers in the minors over the first half of last season, but he did so as a 25-year-old in the Carolina League. When the White Sox tried him in Triple-A, he hit .220 with two homers in 91 at-bats. He was then returned to Single-A Winston-Salem, where he finished up with a .341/.414/.637 line and 29 homers in 411 at-bats. Now 26, he hardly qualifies as a prospect. Whether he plays at Double- or Triple-A next year will depend on what happens with Walter Young.

26 year old minor leaguer, I would guess he got nothing too nice.

Winning Carolina League player of the year at that age has to come with some mixed feelings for Daigle. Sure he feels good for hitting well and dominating the league but there has to part of him wishing he never even got the opprotunity to dominate A-Ball at age 25.
