Lefty?

I hope we have a better lefty on the farm than Sanders...Please tell me we have someone we can bring up to replace Marte? I know it might be too late for eligibility for the playoff roster (unless we can use the K-Rod Exemption on Marte), but do we even have anyone to talk about bringing up?

I know the Sox were going to use Josh Fields out of the pen to throw against lefties as lefties against him were hitting something like 0.79 or some crazy number like that. But he went down with the injury so Sanders came up for that role.

In 81 at bats, lefties are batting .272 with 14 walks against lefty specialist Damaso Marte.

In 89 at-bats, lefties are batting .213 with nine walks against lefty specialist Neal Cotts.

In 65 total at-bats, lefties are batting .154 with eight walks against Cliff Politte.

In 79 at-bats, lefties are batting .177 with six walks against Brandon McCarthy.

In 42 at-bats, lefties are batting .043 with five walks against Bobby Jenks.

Bottom line: in the playoffs, the Sox bullpen will be full of guys who have been outstanding at getting lefties out this year.

We have quite a few better lefties in the minors than Sanders, but they're all starters and mostly at the lower levels. It's too late to make the playoff roster though. If I'm not mistaken, you have to be on the big league roster by September 1st.

We don't have any lefties to bring up, but with Marte on the DL, they don't have to be on the Sept 1 roster.

I'm pretty sure they have to be on the 40-man roster on Sept 1 to be eligible to be substituted.

Correct. This is how the Angels got K-Rod onto the roster a few years ago.

Word was that Bullard was the other consideration, but since he was hurt, it was no go. I talked to Jim and he said he had no idea how true that was.

Yeah, it's probably his last chance to stick with the team. He'll might even be a Rule V casualty.

Keep in mind that Munoz is still only 23. If he got called up, he'd be the second youngest player on the Sox. He's the youngest player still remaining on the Knights' roster. Heck, most of the Barons are older than Munoz.
