Default Mel Allen & Hawk – Curt Smith MLBlog

As a younger guy who didn't know much about him, it was fascinating both to read and to learn about Mel Allen, one of the best voices ever to announce the game. A pretty interesting article, in my opinion.

And after that, Smith, also author of several books and former presidential speechwriter, has a neat feature on Hawk.

Check them out here.

My apologies if this has been posted. I did a perusal of the forum and didn't see it, however.

I grew up hearing Mel Allen narrate This Week In Baseball and count that as one of my favorite childhood memories. The guy was magical behind the mic and I only wish I would have had the opportunity to hear him do games as well the show.If you get a chance, check out old TWIB episodes on ESPN Classic-for Mel as well as some great baseball footage. The current episodes of This Week In Baseball don't hold a candle to the old ones.
