As a couple guys alluded to Getz (4) is a very good player. Scrappy and gets the most from his tools.

Cunningham (6), as Randar said, tore up JuCo pitching last year. Very strong at 6'0" 190 lbs.

Cortes (7) will be a tough sign away from San Diego St, but has a live arm. Big kid, 6'5" 205 lbs.

Sabo (18) has a live arm and a good head from the game and strong desire. I like Seton Hall pitchers. Good size at 6'3" 205 lbs.

Flores (37) had good stats at his New Mexico JuCo and lead the nation in strikeouts. Won 2 games in the JuCo World Series in which his team was the 2005 National Champions. He was named outstanding pitcher of the tournament.

Let me add a couple quick notes. Clayton Richard was a big-time pitching prospect before going to Michigan as a QB. He's a 6'5" lefty with a low-90's fastball and throws from 3/4 arm slot. VERY tough on lefties. He is raw, but despite that and not pitching for almost 2 years, he was dominant out of the bullpen for Michigan. He will be a releiver at first in the Sox system. (Don't know if they will work him up to starting over the winter or not, usually a good way to get guys a lot of innings/experience).
BA on Richard:

LHP Clayton Richard has limited baseball experience, coming to Michigan on a football scholarship and serving as a backup quarterback last fall. A highly regarded pitching prospect out of high school, he returned to baseball this spring as Michigan's co-closer. He's an athletic 6-foot-4, 225-pound southpaw with a low 90s fastball and a developing curveball. But he's also 22 and raw, and scouts don't like his arm action. He skipped spring football practice and has said he's going to give up football and wants to sign.

Also, Chirino is a good prospect who was booted or left the University of Miami team due to a dispute with the head coach. Sox scouts saw him work out several times and were very impressed with his live arm and good downward plane and snap on the ball. The Sox always scout the hell out of South Florida, so I am hoping we found a diamond in the rough.

Cunningham is an interesting story. The JuCO league he plays in is an all-wood bat league, and he hit .489-10-56 and nearly won the league triple crown as a true freshman.

BA Scouting report on Cunningham:
Huge numbers of scouts came for Simons and Zink, and they stayed for OF Aaron Cunningham. The unheralded freshman tore up the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges, hitting .489-10-56, earning MVP honors and nearly winning the league’s triple crown. Exceptionally strong at 6 feet and 190 pounds, Cunningham hit a number of long wood-bat home runs with one of the purest swings in the Northwest. His other tools, mainly his speed and arm strength, are slightly above-average.

Daniel Cortez is one of the better commitments to SDSU and will be a tough sign, but the Sox may be able to get away with it since they didn't have a 2nd rounder and Brooks will be an easy sign, IMO. Cortes is a big projectible pitcher with good stuff and command/makeup.

BA: Cortes has a raw approach to pitching because he had little instruction until this year, but his fastball ranges from 89-93 mph and he has learned to throw a spike curveball to complement it.

Getz is a very good value when they took him, here is his blurb from BA:

Getz has an impressive track record with the bat, sandwiching .364 and .389 seasons at Michigan around a .293 summer with wood bats in the Cape Cod League. He makes exceptional contact from the left side of the plate, striking out just 46 times in three college seasons while focusing on staying inside the ball. He gets on base and has basestealing speed once he's there. Though he has played second base for the Wolverines and as a freshman at Wake Forest, he has the arm, hands and range to play shortstop as a pro and may well get that opportunity. The lone knock on Getz is his power. His size and approach don't lend themselves to driving the ball. He has just nine extra-base hits (all doubles) this year and had three (all doubles) on the Cape last summer. Scouts say his makeup will allow him to maximize his ability, but his ceiling is more of a Craig Counsell or Mickey Morandini than as a star.

BA on Rote:

Rote, a closer much of the last two years, has struggled with command and his mechanics out of the stretch, a difficult problem for a reliever. He's thrown more consistent strikes out of the windup, scouts say, harnessing his 94-95 mph fastball. Rote's secondary stuff is ordinary, however. His grandfather Tobin Rote played quarterback for Rice and later in the NFL for parts of 13 seasons, making two Pro Bowls.

BA on Brooks:

East Carolina ace Ricky Brooks was the top prospect on the Pirates roster; as a draft-eligible sophomore, his bonus requirements clouded his draft outlook. Brooks has three average pitches, including an 89-91 mph fastball he commands well. When he's on, he can dominate, including a no-hitter and a one-hitter during the season.

The Sox also were believed to be close to signing seventh-round pick Daniel Cortes, a right-handed pitcher from Garey High School in Pomona, Calif.

Cortes signed a letter-of-intent with San Diego State, but Aztecs coach and Padres legend Tony Gwynn said he was aware the Sox had made an offer that Cortes' family was pondering.

The 6-foot-5-inch, 215-pound Cortes throws in the low-90 m.p.h. range. He played tight end on Garey's football team.

University of Kansas senior left-handed pitcher Jacob Jean recently signed a professional contract with the Chicago White Sox as an undrafted free agent.
