Burke accepts assignment; Giambi Jr. gone

FORT MILL, SC – Prior to today’s game against the Ottawa Lynx the Charlotte Knights/Chicago White Sox have assigned catcher Jamie Burke to Charlotte as well as releasing outfielder Jeremy Giambi.

Burke, 33, was hitting .284 (23-81) with three home runs and nine RBI in 24 games at Charlotte before being called up to Chicago. Burke was also in the middle of a 10-game hitting streak where he was batting .432 (16-37) with two home runs. Burke grounded out in his only at bat during his time with the White Sox. Burke has a career .328 (44-134) batting average with 17 RBI's in 73 career games in the major leagues.

Giambi, 30, was hitting .000 (0-8) in 4 games with Charlotte. The 5-foot-11, 216-pounder is a career .263 (372-1,417) hitter with 52 home runs and 209 RBI in 510 games, over six major-league seasons.

You gotta love Jamie. He could be a back-up catcher on so many teams yet he chooses to stay on our AAA. Anyone know if Davis is in AAA?

Good luck Jaime. Fortunate enough to have met him the past two Sox Fest's and he seemed to be good guy. Especially this past January where the writing was on the wall that he would not make the team after the Sox signed AJ. He showed up at Soxfest and did not make waves. Once again good luck Jaime and I hope we see you up with the big team soon.

Burke cleared waivers, which means that no other MLB team wanted him on their roster. He chose to stay on our AAA instead of playing for somebody else's AAA team. Davis is injured.
