Charlotte lost 3-2. Josh Stewart and lasted only 2 innings after being hit by a line drive. Bullpen (Munoz, Fields, Sanders and Bajenaru) performed well but Fields was hung with the loss as the Knights could do little against the Braves top pitching prospect, Kyle Davies. Borchard Watch: 1-4, 2Ks .193. Toca: 1-4, solo homer his 5th.
Prior to the game the Chicago White Sox/Charlotte Knights released IF Brian Becker and signed IF Greg Norton (!). Birmingham slipped back out of 1st place (1/2 game) with a 10-8 loss. Honel was hammered falling to 1-2, 9.64 ERA. Josh Fields had a huge day going 4-5, 2 2B, 2R, 3 RBI, .347. Winston-Salem and Haeger (3-0, 2.14) won their game 6-2. Valido: 2-4, 2 2B, R, RBI, .366. Collaro: 3-4, 2B, HR (6th), 3 RBI, .350. WS improved to 9-7, 1/2 game out of 1st. Kannapolis won 3-1. Moat (2-0, 2.57) with win in relief. Gio Gonzalez (1.23) started and pitched another beauty: 6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 10 Ks. Josh Hansen hit a 2 run walk-off homer in the 12th inning, his 7th HR. The Intimidators improved to 10-7, 1 g out of 1st.

And you have to think if Gonzalez keeps up at this rate much longer they'll have to find a spot at Winston-Salem for him.

Only concern with Gonzalez seems to be that he cant go too deep into games. Other than that, though, it sounds like he's doing amazingly well.

On top of that, the Sox have made a concerted effort to keep him from going too many pitches/innings too early in his career. |
