Debunked Rumor: SamME traded?

Wife just wrote me and said she heard SamME So$o was just traded - any truth to that rumor? I don't know who'd be dumb enough to take him - other than the Mets.

FWIW, Mets boards are quiet, while Oriole fans are whooping it up on their MLB forum, believing that Sosa is going to Baltimore. This of course, means NOTHING, but still...

EDIT: Heh heh, a deeper reading of the Orioles board shows more fans recoiling in horror and disgust than those who are pleased. Total speculation either way. I just think it's funny that Sosa repells so many people.

Here's the closest thing I could find to Sosa being traded http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/3354874It's a story from yesterday, and it only says his agent believes he'll be traded. So, officially hasn't happened yet, but looks like it will in the not-to-distant future.

Nobody in their right mind should be willing to take that albatross contract. I don't think there's any way this can be true.

Sure it can. The $18M option for '06 will kick in and the Cubs will have to take over someone else's albatross of a contract, plus throw in cash. Never say never.

Last I heard the Cubs were trying to convince the MLBPA to allow Sammy to waive that option for '06. Given the stink they put up last year with A-Rod, I don't see how the union could agree to this. If the '06 option kicks in, the Cubs could wind up having to throw in more money than it would cost them to just pay him for '05 and buy out the '06 option. Maybe not impossible, but.....

Sammy Sosa - OF - CHC

The Orioles are having internal discussions about whether to pursue a Sammy Sosa trade, the Washington Post reports.
If the money can be worked out, the Orioles could trade Jorge Julio and Jay Gibbons to the Cubs for Sosa and Kyle Farnsworth. It's the money that's the big problem, though. It's still pretty likely that Sosa will spend one final season with the Cubs. Jan. 27 - 4:41 am et
