So who else thought that Dave van Dyke's article today was just justification for the Cubs not signing Beltran before he even signed elsewhere? He points out that a 7-year big money deal doesn't always work out citing Griffey, Giambi, Mo Vaughn and others. While I agree, it just stinks of Cubs PR.

Even though I think 6 years, 100 mil is too much for Beltran, the Trib has been defending the Cubs and never criticizing Hendry for making a better play at Beltran. I hope Beltran ends up with Houston, then the Sox wouldn't have to face him (unless in the World Series!), and then Clemens would come back to Houston and Cubs fans would have to endure another 3rd-4th place finish in the NL Central.
