I would say BS if I did not hear it with my own ears.
Woah boy. Will Carrol just said on sporting news radio that the Cubs have entered the mix and are prepared to offer Sosa, Farnsworth and Guzman to the Diamond backs. In turn the cubs would get Johnson and ship him to the yankees for Vasquez. Carroll said the cubs want Beltran and need to dump Sosa to make it happen. HOLY MOLY! |

Forget to mention the words "and lots of Cash" to the Cubs offer. There's no way AZ takes on Sosa's contract.
Also, I think Vazquez makes 10.5 million in 2005, 11.5 in 2006 and 12.5 in 2007. That does not free up any money for them to sign Beltran. I doubt the Cubs are involved in this deal.

Will Carroll, now that I think about it, has never been right about anything. I'm sure he was just stirring the pot. Interesting scenario but I doubt it will happen.

Where would Vazquez go in this scenario? Arizona? Would the Cubs want him? It makes sense on the Sosa substitutes for Greenk, Farnsworth for Brazoban and Guzman for Penny part of it, but what would the Cubs get? I guess they would take on Vazquez in this situation because they would be getting rid of a guy that they had slotted for the future rotation. Would they also get Navarro and Duncan? If the Cubs get Navarro, Duncan and Vazquez out of Farnsworth, Sosa and Guzman, then Hendry should be awarded GM of the year on the spot. That would be a very good move for the Cubs.

Sosa, Farnsworth, and Guzman? Their two biggest problems and a sore armed prospect? That would be a deal made in heaven for the loveable Cubbies. Sounds like wishful thinking to me.

As we await word on Clement, there is indeed a 4th team involved in this potential Randy Johnson deal.
