In case you dont know what these are, they are the stats if McCarthy had pitched in the Major Leagues last year based on his minor league stats. They are by no means an absolute measure of how he would have performed, so take them with a grain of salt. The rank is probably a better indicator than the stats themselves and don't take this to mean that McCarthy will have a 5.07 ERA if he came into the ML tomorrow. I still think he's a little less than a year away, but next year will tell the story. Minor league rank in parentheses: ERA: 5.07 (8) WHIP: 1.34 (2) K: 136 (2) K/IP: .86 (3) K/BB: 3.78 (2) Not too bad. McCarthy's ERA was affected by a few starts last year and probably his translated suffered as a result. He's about to become the sabermetricians prospect of choice once they see the kind of numbers he put up (in actuality) last year. His minor league career #'s (actual) are: 1.07 WHIP, 1.52 BB/9, 10.35 K/9, and a 6.8 K/BB These are more telling than Wins and probably even ERA when looking into minor league stats. Dont forget the 60:3 K/BB ratio at High A last year. He's going to be a star and I cant wait until he finally is on the major league team. Just a reminder of the future of this team.

And Rauch isn't a fair comparison b/c Jon hurt his shoulder and his stuff never came back 100%. That said, the comp with Rauch that probably will be correct is that Bmac's gonna give up some homers in the Cell. But he seems to have the mental toughness like a McDowell or a Buerhle to hang in there and win some games 6 to 5, and not everyone (*cough* Garland *cough*) has the tenacity to do that.

Where did McCarthy come from? I don't keep great tabs on the Sox minor leagues, but I remember Honel, Rauch, Diaz, Munoz, etc. being the hot pitching prospects last offseason. Did he just light it up in A or AA and I missed it?
