Default Comparing Guzman and Vizquel's Contracts + Would you take either?

ESPN just announced that Cristian Guzman's contract that he signed is a 4 year, $16.8 million with the Washington Nationals. This came a day after Omar Vizquel signed a 3 year, $12.25 million deal with the San Francisco Giants. That means Guzman's average annual salary is $4.2 million. Vizquel's is $4.08 million.

That being said, if you were KW and could have outbid your opponent by $1 to get either one of those two, would you have?

Not when I have a guy named Uribe patrolling SS.

How about we not focus on "holes" that are already filled.

So true, didn't Uribe just have a breakout year? Although it can be argued that Uribe would start at 2B where he is said to be a lot more effective compared to him at SS.

Either way, offensively, he's a threat.

Uribe hit a solid .283 but this including a wild up and down of 2 months of batting .330 and then 2 months of batting .230 then the last 2 right around .280 giving him a season ending averge of about .280. True Uribe could turn out to be our SS of the future hes got speed, great range, great arm, can bunt, and hit for a solid .280, but the streakyness is a concern. This kind of young players needs insurance against. Insurance that comes in the form of acquiring a veteran like vizquel to fall back on, or split the time when the goings get rough so it doesn't bring the team down. I wouldn't overpay for insurance at all, rather just pay. So if KW can get a polanco or todd walker pretty cheap he should jump on that. That is more solid but the same types of #'s, just in case uribe does his streaky thing again.
