Sox AAA Farm Team moving?

A story in Monday's Indianapolis Star mentioned the possibility of the White Sox changing their AAA affiliation from Charlotte to Indianapolis next season. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

I haven't heard anything on this, but that would seem to make sense logistically and fan base wise.

This would be very wise. It would create a fan base in an area just about three hours away. THis would rank up there in smart decisions, like the Iowa Cubs and Pawtucket Red Sox. Keeping a AAA team close by home would only increase the amount of fans.

I fully agree that this would be a smart move in regards to bringing more Sox fans closer to Chicago. However, what about the existing Indianapolis AAA franchise? Are they moving as well?

The franchise doesn't actually move, they just change what Ml club they're affiliated with. For example the Charlotte Knights were the Indians AAA team before they switched affiliations to the Sox, who had their AAA team in Nashville.

If the SOX move the AAA to Indy it will be like in the 60's & early 70's when they were the team. I moved to Indy in 1963 totally bummed that I was that far away from the team but got to see players like Walt Williams and Ken Berry who played for the Indy Indianas.

Come to think about it a lot of players came through Indy back then, maybe we can do it again

So what happens to the players on the AAA club? If the franchise does not move and only switches ML affiliations would they then receive different players from their new ML affiliate? Sorry if this a stupid question.

Possible? Yes. Negotiating ploy? Probably.

The Sox really like having their clubs consolidated in that NC/VA area, where Bristol, Kanny, W-S, and Charlotte are all so close. It makes things easier for their scouts, instructors, etc. and makes movement/travel logistics easier.

Seriously, it would be great for the fan base if they were to move to Indianapolis. Here's hoping they do it.

more than likely this wont happen - the gm of the indianapolis indians has been known to say that the white sox wont have a aaa team in indy as long as dave wilder is the head of the minor leagues.
