Myself included, we have talked so much about how the media is biased against us? It's gotten to the point that I have started using the term "feces" to describe the media. But in the interest of balance, I wonder if there is anyone in the media that is either fair or on our side. That is, someone in the media who will actually go to bat for us when we're being ripped by the in-bed-with-the-Cubs media.
The only example I can think of is NBC 5 political editor Dick Kay, who said that an anti-Sox media bias does exist during a discussion on WTTW's Chicago Tonight. |

Although, out of that list Dave Wills is the only person who really sticks up for the White Sox. |

Here are a few more names. How about...
Carmen DeFalco (ESPN Radio 1000) Derrick Blakley (CBS 2 Chicago) Julie Swieca (formerly of the Score SportsRadio 670, now with Illinois Radio Network) Harlin S. Neal (WMBI Radio and Illinois Radio Network) Dave Mitchell (WMBI and WBBM-AM Radio) Dan Jiggetts (Fox 32 Chicago) Patrick Elwood (Fox 32 Chicago) Kim Vatis (NBC 5 Chicago)????????? Mike Bloomberg (CLTV...he told me personally he's been a Sox season ticket holder for a while) Those are the only names I can think of right at this moment. If there's any more, I'll let you know. BTW...that guy highlighted in blue...thinks very highly of WSI. If I run into him, I'll tell him hello

There was a time when reporters weren't allowed to reveal their own personal biases when it came to Cubs vs. Sox. However, with the interleague play going on, and the "all-Cubs, all the time" hype that dominated the TV news last fall...not to mention the bias towards the Cubs in small aspects (TV, radio, and print media coverage), Cubs fans are coming out of the woodwork faster than lightning. Maybe it's me, but I sense that if a reporter says he/she is a Cubs fan, there isn't going to be much backlash except from Sox fans. However, if a Sox fan emerges from the press, then all of a sudden...LOOK OUT!!!!! Here comes the Cubbie blue masses about to rip the guy's heart out.
Here are a few more names...Richard Roeper (CBS 2 Chicago and Sun-Times), John Kass (Tribune), the late Tim Weigel (ABC 7 and CBS 2), and Rich King (WGN-TV). More coming soon...I hope. |

If you're talking all print media, The Tribune's John Kass and Ed Sherman are self-professed Sox fans, as is the Sun-Times' Richard Roeper. Kass is most apt to use his column for promoting the Sox, and Roeper will do so at times too. And I always thought the great Jerome Holtzman, maybe the best baseball writer this town ever saw, if not a Sox fan, was extremely evenhanded in his reporting.

There is no way on God's green earth that Bruce Wolf is a Sox fan. He always takes shots at the Sox and praises the Cubs on the morning news on FOX. If he is a Sox fan, we dont need him. He sings the Cubs praises even when they lose. (Oh, that's right, they are the "lovable losers!") He's as much of a sox fan as Walter Jacobsen is!

In published interviews at WSI you'll find that Paul Sullivan has been a long time Sox fan, ditto the assistant sports editor of the Tribune and Sox author Bob Vanderberg, add Melissa Issacson and the sports editor of the Tribune Dan McGrath who grew up in Harvey and went to St. Leo.
Greg Couch of the Sun Times told me he grew up in Chicago rooting for both teams and still has that viewpoint. I do not remember specifically if Phil Arvia of the Daily Southtown is a Sox fan but I got that impression from communicating with him many times. Hope this helps. Lip |

I know she's not a sports reporter, but Robin Robinson on FOX is a Sox fan... I always love the cynical remarks she makes about the Cubs when they screw up...

Mike Flannery from CBS 2. He did some PA announcing at Comiskey for one game. It was a birthday present for him.
Linda Yu from ABC 7. I heard her say so on the air.

Don't etch this in stone, but I think Peggy Kuzinski from NBC 5 is a Sox fan. She subtlely led into that thought while she and Ryan Baker were recapping the game on Sports Sunday last night.
She covered the Sox side of the game, and she did say some pretty nice things about them even though they lost. Once again...I'm not sure. The next time I see her, I'll ask. |

Warner Saunders from NBC 5 is a Sox fan as well, I believe.
