All right, you're Joe Torre... Pick your 2004 American League All-Star Roster, using the confines that he will be... The 8 starters voted in by the fans, 30-man roster (which I believe the All-Star Roster is), and you have to represent each team with at least one player.
Here's mine... (starters in italics) CATCHERS (3) Ivan Rodriguez, Detroit Tigers Victor Martinez, Cleveland Indians Javy Lopez, Baltimore Orioles FIRST BASE (3) Jason Giambi, New York Yankees Frank Thomas, Chicago White Sox Mike Sweeney, Kansas City Royals SECOND BASE (2) Alfonso Soriano, Texas Rangers Ronnie Belliard, Cleveland Indians SHORTSTOPS (3) Derek Jeter, New York Yankees Miguel Tejada, Baltimore Orioles Michael Young, Texas Rangers THIRD BASE (2) Alex Rodriguez, New York Yankees Hank Blalock, Texas Rangers OUTFIELDERS (6) Vladimir Guerrero, Anaheim Angels Manny Ramirez, Boston Red Sox Hideki Matsui, New York Yankees Carl Crawford, Tampa Bay Devil Rays Ichiro Suzuki, Seattle Mariners Jermaine Dye, Oakland A's STARTING PITCHERS (6) Mark Mulder, Oakland A's Miguel Batista, Toronto Blue Jays Freddy Garcia, Chicago White Sox Tim Hudson, Oakland A's Curt Schilling, Boston Red Sox Javier Vazquez, New York Yankees RELIEF PITCHERS (4) Francisco Cordero, Texas Rangers Keith Foulke, Boston Red Sox Joe Nathan, Minnesota Twins Mariano Rivera, New York Yankees The only one I'm really torn on, is Freddy Garcia over Pedro Martinez. Half of me thinks Torre will pick anyone having a solid year over anyone from Boston, but the other half of me thinks that Torre will think more people will want to watch Pedro.. We'll see.

Ha! Torre isn't picking Pedro now after that BS last night. Hopefully he will take either Mark or Esteban instead. Isn't it enough that Pedro gets such a huge strike zone? Perhaps Joe will name Pedro to the team anyway and count on Roger Clemens knocking him down.
Hopefully Jason Giambi won't be voted on the team either as he does not deserve to be there this year or really any year considering he owes much of his success to taking the juice. Plus he is a Yankee and there will already be plenty of those guys on the team. I think either Frank or Paulie deserves to go in his place with David Ortiz starting. A-Rod does not deserve to go either but of course he will be voted in. |

I really hope Garcia makes it but I seriously doubt he will due to his lack of wins thanks to Seattle's O.
I'll do my roster in a bit. |
