Default Matt Clement for Nomar?
On BBTN, Gammons - with his ear ever to the street - says he heard a rumor coming out of Chicago that the Cubs would trade Matt Clement to Boston for Nomar Garciaparra.

Probably a load of BS, but does it seem like a fair trade?





Does anybody care?

Down here, when the sports talk shows took a minute away from talking about frickin' NASCAR, they had a guy from Boston on who said the Red Sox were quietly, but proactively, shopping Nomar. So consider that for whatever you feel it's worth. When I was trying to think of places he could end up, the Cubs didn't enter my mind, but I guess it would make sense, although I think the Cubs would have to add something to that deal.

That deal would be an absolute DISASTER for the Flubs. Look at Nomar's splits away from Fenway...therein lies your answer. Clement has arguably been their #2 guy for the past 2 seasons. They would have to be brain damaged to make that trade.

I don't want to face Matt Clement possibly in the playoffs, either.

no...nomar must not go to those northside punks...

he belongs on the southside, IMO.

i wouldn't mind seeing him in a sox jersey.

Bleh... I would. The only benefit to getting a Nomar Garciaparra is adding a bonafide star attraction on your roster. That and the 3 or 6 games a year we play at Fenway.

FWIW - isn't the word on Nomar that he's REALLY interested in heading to the WC? So even if the Chubs get him, it would only be a rental. But I guess giving up Clement wouldn't really hurt them since he's an FA at the end of the year anyway.

But me no like face him in playoffs. And no like Cubs adding to their team.

That's what I thought. I remember when he was rumored to be coming to the Sox that he was supposedly not happy about the possibility. The Angels will probably be the front-runners since Izturis seems to finally be coming around for the Dodgers, and Khalil Greene looks like a decent player for the Padres. Although, I guess the Dodgers may decide to go after him anyway. I just think they will be bigger players in the the Ordonez or Beltran sweepstakes.

Watched the 14 inning classic tonight between Yanks and Boston.
Nomar was the only non pitcher to NOT play in the game. The reported he had words with Francona about not being in the line up.
Nomar wants out of Boston it seems and a trade like this makes sense for both teams if you ask me.

Is it just me or is Nomar one of the most overrated players in MLB? Not as much as Jeter but it seems he is overrated.

kinda funny how in a 13 inning game where all but one position player was used (that one being Nomar), he was the one sat out. don't teams that are looking to trade a guy real soon, wanna have the manager sit him just in case of a fluke injury were to happen? i think looking at Nomar's numbers out of Fenway, do Flubs fans have anything to look forward to with him at short?

there are nights on BBTN, that Nomar bumps Jeter off the top of the list of most overrated, but overall, Jeter takes the cake night in and night out.
