Those who bemoan sponsership of practically everything connected to a sporting event and harken back to the "good old days" when it was just plain sports ought to take note of this: ESPN classic ran Game 7 of the 1952 World Series this morning. "In the first inning Mel Allen said "Stepping up to the Gileete microphone... Red Barber."

If you at pictures of many of the old parks, they were littered with advertisements and what not. Plus you have to remember there wasn't really television advertising, so they got the money through radio & in park advertising.
