I've been reading all the threads over the last couple of weeks by Hangar 18 and others, about the media bias towards the Cubs in the papers, and on the Score, namely the "Mike Murphy Morning Cub Show". I could not agree more. I listen to the Score at my desk at work from 8:30 till 5. Generally, I like the station, but lately, I've become more and more agrivated with Murph, and find myself turning the radio off till 10 a.m. His show is an absolute joke. He is constantly saying how "we've got Cubs and Sox talk coming up", or "Sox fans, Cub fans, give us a call, we wanna hear what your thinking"; he then procedes to spend segment after segement going on and on about the Cubs, taking calls from listeners like "Cubbie John" or "Maddux Boy", interupted only by commercials. The amount of time spent talking about the Sox in the 90 minutes that he's on when I'm listening is maybe 10 minutes. He'll maybe take a call from a Sox fan, or they'll briefly discuss some managerial move Ozzie made, but then it's right back to Cub talk. What makes it even worse, is that he's often incorrect in some of his statements, and when people call him on it, like Piersall did this morning, he sort of poo-poos it , and once again, quickly breaks for a commercial. What's also bad, is anytime somebody calls him out about not talking enough White Sox, he, like alot of others in the media- (Newspapers, etc.) turns it around on the caller, saying that they're just being "typical bitter, pessimistic Sox fan, quit complaining, blah blah blah..." I'm glad to see alot of other people feel the same way I do about this. Sorry, that's my rant for today I guess. Oh, and would someone tell Murph to clear his throat or something. It sounds like he has a tunafish sandwich caught in there.

I can't stand Murphy anymore. His bias towards the Cubs just permeates the entire broadcast. Case in point, this morning they were talking about the Sox/Phillies game last night. Not a minute into the conversation, Murphy has to start asking the reporter how EX-CUB LARRY BOWA is doing lately. He'll do anything to twist the conversation towards the Cubs.

Any Sox Fan who wastes his time listening to WSCR in the morning deserves every hard kick, rotten lick, dirty trick you and I both know he'd get.
:DavidBromberg "I REFUSE TO BE YOUR FOOL!" Murph is one of "those 3000 unemployed so-called fans out here every day, ripping everything you do," a bleacher bum glorifying losing and thinking it clever to palm a home run and throw back a fake one to fool all the idiots from Iowa even dumber than the drunks sitting with him inside that putrid pisshole of a ballpark. Do everyone a favor and stop listening to that ****. And please stop talking about that ****ing ******* at WSI. Thank you. |

I kinda like North FROM TIME TO TIME. When he let's his sthick down long enough he seems like a decent human being. Buffone's name is apropriate. Jay Hood is alright from what I hear. Living 2 hours east I barely get a chance to listen. I'm stuck listening to Mike and Mike and Colin Cowherd(eek) So it could be worse. And if you're a masochist (most of us seem to be) then listening to Murph and Fred seems like a good fit. I personally don't listen. |

Murph usually talks about the Sox from 5:30 am - 5:45 am . Southside Bob calls in and thats about the extent of the cub free Sox talk. I haven't listened to the show since the Scores "baseball expert" Mickey Morandini said he doesn't follow the White Sox. Tuning the radio on in the morning while getting ready for work is a habit I've had for a long time. WGN- isn't a viable option, I don't want a farm report. WLS- has probably the biggest idiot in the history of talk radio on in the morning, Don Wade. WBBM- I don't need traffic reports, I live a couple of miles from work. ESPN- I get enough Yankee/NY Giant coverage from ESPN tv.Plus any station that has Moronotti is suspect. 105.9- I'm not into lesbian sex / porn stars / or 8th grade locker room talk 101.1- Mancow could be as bad as Howard Stern if he tried harder. Complete garbage. 93.1 - a bit to cubbish , but the best option for tunes. 1690- animal stories/uncle Lar and snot nose Tommy. Moving the alarm clock a 1/2 hour ahead is probably the smartest move. Just don't like doing a Bumstead out the door for work. Last edited by hose; 06-11-2004 at 06:30 AM. |

As soon as 6 o'clock hits I switch to Stern. At the completely opposite end of the spectrum I will listen to NPR during Stern commercials.
I think Fred gets off too easily from abuse for being complicit in the Murph/Fred morning Cub-o-thon. He is supposed to be the Sox fan. He is supposed to be the one interjecting a balance. However he sits there like a bump. Since it was Murph's show before Fred came on the scene, I'm sure Murphy has told him to play the part of second banana. That is why he never contradicts Murph and has almost zero input in the direction of the show. However if this guy had any pride he would be looking to get equal billing or fill a different time slot. |

The Score needs an entire revamping. I listend to murph & Fred just because it's local. I think Murph must have some kind of disease in that his mouth always has to say "Cubs" every 5 minutes. He even does this during football season.
Hopefully the Sox will be on the Score soon and the Score does an entire revamping of all the shows. Unfortunately, no matter what, Dan Bernstein will still be there due to the unfortunate new contract he received. Boers and Bernstein together are a completely classless tandem. Separately they're ok, but still not that likeable. I did enjoy listening to the 10-2 shift when Boers was out, and then when Bernstein was out with contract talks going on. Since they're together again, I don't listen. I long for the days of the original Score(except for Tom Shaer), the Monsters, Heavy Fuel, T-Dub, and the Grobber. |

The time I spent at ESPN 1000,I refused to call the Sox Ballpark by it's new corporate name, but never caught any bad feedback from Management for that. Probably because when new Management got there, they almost never listened to TDub or myself on the air, since they had no plans to keep that show, and just did'nt care about it. |

I like my sports talk smart...old athletes like Buffone or Jiggetts don't do anything for me.
In the realm of that smart talk, I really enjoy Mike & Mike in the morning, Mariotti, Dan & Terry, and SOMETIMES, Mac, Jurko and Harry. I loved Tony Kornheiser, but he is no more. I can listen to Carmen and Silvey sometimes, but just for silly banter. I abhore Mike North & Murph and Fred. |
