Default How big was yesterday?

Okay, we got baffled by a pitcher on his A game. It happens. Vazquez could win 25 games pitching like that.
But, in terms of an AL Central title, I think yesterday was huge. Scott Schoeneweis was going to struggle in the first inning. Everybody knew it. It was his first start in ages, he was pitching against the Yanks, and there was extra pressure on him. He was going to overthrow until he settled down. Once he did settle down, it was cruise control time. Impressive.
Now, that means (hoping that Garland and Wright keep it together) that we could have a fairly solid rotation, actually capable of letting our team string together an extended streak of wins. I know people are going to bemoan the hitting that went on yesterday, but those days happen in this league to everyone. So, we did find out that (at least for one day) Scott Schoeneweis may have a place on this rotation after all, and the gaping hole there isn't so gaping. Now, if we could just get a hit out of the top spot in our lineup!

Default True, but.

Yeah....that goes with any pitcher, though. Every day they have to prove they're worth a damn. And, with pitchers it seems like confidence is an even bigger thing. Going up against murderer's row and giving up 3 runs is a good start and a great confidence builder.

I agree that this is a positive in the long run. Obviously we'd like to win every game, but if we go through a turn of the rotation and everyone can give us a quality start, then we are in damn good shape for the long run. We're 3/5s of the way to acheiving that goal. Garland is a very good shot to turn in a QS. If Wright turns one in, we're sitting pretty

I agree we need to wait and see, but the guy knows how to pitch and definitely has a confident veteran presence. But I'd still give anything for Garland to grow up and become the real #3. Only then would I consider the Sox dangerous.

From a guy who is in reality our #4 if not #5 starter (despite his starting at #3) I'll take that performance any day. Besides, 3 runs against New York translates to 1 or none against Cleveland, Toronto, Oakland, Texas, etc. I will take a loss like yesterday's over a loss like Monday's any day of the year. Vazquez just had his good stuff, and on top of that, the Sox had never seen him before.

i think yesterday could have proven to be a HUGE win, especially for the morals of the players and schoenweis, but losing it didn't really do too much. we pretty much threw it away when we moved garland to face contreres instead of vasquez, which means we knew we would lose, however i was quite impressed the schoenweis's performance despite the loss. 2 runs against the yanks is better than i expected out of him, i wouldn't mind if he kept playing like that

Default Woah!!

Then, folks, we see Garland have a great outing, despite that one inning. He wiggled his way out of it, though, and hit cruise control!!!! Dare we say the Sox may have a rotation????????

I like what I see so far, but it's still early. Every pitcher will have hot and cold streaks. Let's hope it's more hot than cold with our staff.
