Default Nick Madrigal

Nicky was promoted to AA Birmingham and his first game last night he went 3 for 4 with 2 SBs. I for one can't wait for this kid to come up to the Sox, he has the potential to be the best leadoff hitter in the history of the team.
And then there's Luis Robert, this kid might be ready right now and it wouldn't surprise me to see him up with the Sox after the All-Star break. The future with these 2 along with Cease is looking a lot brighter.

I remember watching those first videos available of Luis Robert and thinking to myself, "this guy could really be something special". Swings like his only come around once in a great while.

It would surprise me. I think we see him in September and then 3 weeks into next season.

Does September not count toward service time? I thought the clock started for September call-ups.

It does. If the team wants to extend his season by another month this year, that time can be made up by keeping him in the minors until the middle of May instead of the middle of April.

Nick Madrigal would have to make a significant improvement to his power stroke to be better than Ray Durham. He was a damn good leadoff hitter.

I don't think he needs to hit for power to be a great leadoff hitter. As long as he can spray the entire outfield and he has some speed - he will be amazing. Better than Durham? Who knows. Hopefully!

In 15 games since his promotion to AA, he's hitting .404 with a .952 OPS.

He also has 8 stolen bases. In 57 at bats, he only has 1 strikeout.

But how many home runs? This is meaningless without home runs.

While I don’t think he’ll finish the season with a .400 average, I do think that he and Robert both are in the process of “forcing the issue” toward roster spots in Chicago in 2020.

If its me, service time be damned, I am calling Nick up after the all star game. Yolmer has been pure garbage and Rodon is not a major leaguer. I want Nick getting his feet wet now with the expectation this is a contending team next year.

Madrigal will be called upon to do quite a few things for the Sox when he arrives. Hitting for power, however, isn't one of them.

I really enjoyed watching him play on TV at Oregon State and can't wait for him to reach the South Side.

If you're going to do that, call up Robert too. He's actually hitting for power as well as average.

However, I disagree. We have long talked about the Sox not rushing prospects. I see nothing wrong with letting them both continue to develop. If they stay hot, move them both to AAA later this summer and if the service times aren't an issue bring them up for a September call up. I am okay with the Sox doing the service time clock thing though and bringing them both up mid-April next year if they continue to look like they deserve the promotion at that time.

If Robert and Madrigal hit in The Show like they are in the minors, having them on both sides of Jimenez in the lineup would be very fun to watch for several years. Unless, of course, you're for the other team.
