Default Forbes MLB Values...

Every MLB team is worth at least $1 billion for the first time per @Forbes. Here are the most profitable teams by operating income:

1. Dodgers $95M
2. Phillies $94M
3. Cubs $87M
4. Giants/Red Sox $84M
6. White Sox $76M

How can the Sox be more profitable than the Yankees (using any metric)?

I don't think it's that they are worth more than the Yankees, it's just that they were more profitable last year than the Yankees, which is probably a result of having a much smaller payroll? At least I'd assume that's what it is.

Correct.
The Sox spend a lot less money on Yankees (entire organizational costs) and thus it appears last year the Sox were more profitable.

If these numbers are accurate or even close to being accurate, it's truly upsetting considering what happened this past off season.

Lip, I clicked the link to the story in your post and the rankings are different than listed in your post. Yankees are #1. Sox were middle of the pack. Am I missing something?

That's just the overall value of the teams in the link he provided. If you go down a little further there's another link that says "click here for full list of MLB financial information" where it shows the Sox were #6 in operating income for the year.

Interestingly enough, it looks like the Sox had the 10th lowest revenues for the season, but still managed to be the 6th most profitable. That's either impressive or sad depending on how you look at it.

I'm sure the Sox will deny this just like MLB claimed 18 or so teams were losing money during the 1994 labor impasse. Then, of course, when an independent Stanford economist was able to look at their books he found that to be a total falsehood.

If you look at the actual consumer number in attendance and TV ratings, it can't get any lower than it currently is.

There should be a daily kneeling and praise session to the taxpayers from Sox ownership.

Where does it say that the Sox are the 5th most profitable franchise, can't find it in the article or the chart. The chart has the Sox as the 14th most valuable franchise.

As I have mentioned before, the bean counters convinced the chairman of the rebuild, it had nothing to do with making the team competitive down the line. It was to help the bottom line.
