Default 2018/19 Offseason Sox Transaction & Injury Status Thread

Avi Garcia has had surgery on his knee and Kevan Smith has had ankle surgery.

Tyler Danish refused his outright assignment and is now a free agent.

....also on Oct. 2, minor league catcher Dustin Garneau was outrighted to Charlotte and removed from the 40-man roster.

bummed on Danish. I loved the pick in the draft, he had wicked movement as a kid, but never added the velocity they thought he would.

According to James Fegan tonight the White Sox are listing both Kevin Smith and Carson Fulmer as being out of options.

Just something to keep in the back of your mind.

I for one was always expecting Fulmer to be on the team next year and I don't see a point in them going out and signing a new catcher at this point in time, b so Narvaez and Smith would be fine with me, but I think they are stuck with Wellington for another year so not sure how that plays out.

They might have to stick with all 3 of those catchers and hope either Smith or Narvaez emerge as a long time backup. Hopefully Wellington comes out the gate strong and becomes as flippable asset at the deadline. I think Collins and Zavala will eventually get their shots at the MLB level. I really hope either one can make the leap.

I donít think carrying 3 catchers is even possible anymore with a 13-man pitching staff. Donít get me wrong, I would love to see the 8th reliever go the way of the Dodo bird, but I donít think the front office agrees.

There's an outside chance that the 13th pitcher is Matt Davidson though, which could open up room for a third catcher.

I'm expecting the Sox to swap Fulmer for Jeff Hoffman, a guy they really liked in his draft year. Hoffman is a year older than Fulmer, but they were supposedly going to take Hoffman in 2014 if Rodon didn't make it to them and Hoffman didn't blow his elbow. Both are failed starters and out of options.

Wouldn't it be nice if Jones could stay off the DL at least for a year.

I would not be surprised if Shields is in a Sox uni next year.

Jones is 32, has had only 3 full seasons, and only 1 of which was really good (the other 2 were average). I'd prefer new blood, but that's not how this org. operates.
