Default Palka Power

This kid has been on a power tear that nobody saw coming. Is it possible he'll be our equivalent to Schwarber when the team starts winning again? He certainly fits the profile, at least with his approach and capabilities at the plate.

Old saying in baseball "hit em where they ain't". Palka hits em where no one ever ain't.
Going ahead in the rebuild, he should be the DH for the foreseeable future, he needs to raise the BA, .250-.260 should do it.

Poor walk/OBP, even on the strong side of a platoon, kills him.

Maybe Steverson can fix him.

Palka is intriguing. He has shown tremendous power and the comparisons to the hammer Dan Pasqua are apt both appearance wise and plate approach. One comparison I have been pondering while considering Palka is what this Sox player did in 2007:

2007 CHW 100g / 23hr / 64rbi / .244avg / .308obp / .480slg / .788ops

2018 CHW 78g / 17hr / 44rbi / .236avg / .281obp / .504slg / .782ops

Josh Fields went on to appear in 93 more games for the Sox in ‘08 & ‘09 and produced just 7 additional home runs. He played a bakers dozen worth of games for KC in ‘10 before hanging up the cleats for good at the age of 27.

I’m not saying Palka will follow suit, he very well may break out and be a solid mlb contributer. I’m in favor of being excited about his potential and his performance thus far is worthy of both the Sox and the fans to take notice. On the flip side —being mindful of his sample size, and seeing what he can do with a few seasons of mlb service should be considered (Avi is further along with his progress here, but still needs more time to be considered the real deal).

**interesting footnotes: both Fields and Palka are listed at 6’ 2” 225/220 making them even more similar. Josh was 24 in his “breakout” year while Daniel is 26.

Palka could improve his value and future by stealing a page out of the Matt Davidson playbook -- spend the offseason learning plate discipline and improve your walk numbers.

The only Sox position player that has exceeded expectations for this year.
