Default The Ken "Hawk" Harrelson Appreciation/Nostalgia Thread

As we approach the end of Hawk's tenure calling games, feel free to post links to your favorite Hawk calls/moments here. I can't believe this thread hasn't been made yet.

Mod Edit: Sarcastic comments, posts and rants telling us how much you hate Hawk will be removed and if you persist you WILL be punished. You have been warned.

1983, a Sunday home game vs Baltimore. The umpire called spectator interference on a ball that cleared the fence and sailed into the man's hand. (The guy who caught it even called the post game show and explained what happened) Anyway, after vociferously arguing with the umpire, Tony La Russa returned to the dugout, stopping along the way to uproot third base and toss it into left field. As the bag went airborne, Hawk said "Attaway, Tony!"

I’ll go with one that’s not my favorite, but is up there in its late-Hawk-ness:

“Come on, Timo! Come on, Timo! Come on, Timo!”

The 1991 game in Texas that the Sox lost when a ball hit down the 3rd base line was ruled fair. Replay showed it was clearly foul and Hawk lost it. So did Wimpy as I recall although not to that degree that Hawk did.

My fandom began at age 7ish when I moved to Chicago in 1992. My parents were not big baseball fans, but I came to love the game, so I gravitated to the decent team in the city.

I don’t love Hawk, but I don’t know anything different, either. Also, I kind of like him. Overall, will be sad to see him go.

For me, it’s the Crede or Timo calls. Both were epic.

Can anyone post a YouTube link? I’ll try...

Love him or hate him, he has passion. More than can be said for most today.

Myself, the Mark B/Wise call will always be near the top

I'd really love to hear some of his calls from earlier in his career. It would be cool if you could hear him call Andy Hawkins no-hitting the Sox but the Sox still won. Or even some of his calls with the Red Sox.

For me, it's the Gordon Beckham botched pop-up against the Mets (link above). It's classic Hawk and you can picture him seething and muttering up in the booth after Beckham runs over Gillaspie. Listen to the whole thing. It's what I love about Hawk -- he's one of us. A passionate fan.
