Default Has Yoan Moncada turned a corner?

Still striking out but now also getting hits. What do we think?

He’s really good. A ridiculous number of strikeouts are just part of the game now.

He needs a thousand ABs before a judgement can be made.

I donít think he turned a corner. I think the randomness of an unusually low BABIP over a painfully small sample size simply reverted to something closer to normal.

Score one for advanced metrics here. Moncadaís exit velocity and his BABIP told us all season long that this type of correction was bound to happen, especially when his high walk rate held steady at an elite level (over 10% for much of the season).

If he ever manages those Ks, oh my.

Yes strikeouts are the acceptable trend, but 200 is bad. He's on pace for 300.

He may always strike out a lot but he's also seeing most of these pitchers for the first time. Hopefully the K rate drops with more experience. When he makes contact he tears the cover off the ball.

Some of his strikeouts can be attributed to horrible home plate umpires. Like tonight.

He's already playing like a superstar with the massive K rate.

Without it he absolutely will be what the early scouting reports said a few years ago -- Robby Cano with more power and more speed.

And that's a slam dunk HOFer

So glad we got him rather than Benintendi in the Sale deal.

He's still very young. He probably hasn't "figured it out" just because he's hitting it well right now, he'll probably go through a couple more slumps, and likely extended ones as well, before the season's done. But he also still has a lot of time before it's time to discuss what we have in him, as in 2-3 years, at least. When that time comes, we'll have a more complete idea of what we actually have in him.
