Default Auld Lang Syne for Sox Fans

The White Sox already covered the usual Christmas poem for us, and it's a lovely bit of verse.

Tomorrow is New Year's Eve. At gatherings to welcome in the new year, people traditionally break into "Auld Lang Syne" at midnight. The song is from a Scottish poem by Robert Burns that urges us not to forget the good times shared in the past.

Our best times around here were in the autumn of 2005. It occurred to me that we don't have a version of Burns's song for ourselves. Here, then, are lyrics you can use if you spend New Year's Eve with a group of like-minded Sox fans.

Happy New Year!

Should old postseasons be forgot,
As long as we’re alive?
Should old postseasons be forgot?
Not Two-oo-Thousand-Five!

For Two-oo-Thousand-Five, my friend,
For Two-oo-Thousand-Five.
We’ll hoist our beers and all say cheers
To Two-oo-Thousand-Five.

And surely we’ll hit Ope-ning Day,
A joy they can’t deprive;
We’ll take a seat and then we’ll bleat
‘Bout Two-oo-Thousand-Five.

For Two-oo-Thousand-Five, my friend,
For Two-oo-Thousand-Five.
Down the foul-line we still will pine
For Two-oo-Thousand-Five.

We all have wished with anxious hearts:
The bullpen to survive.
As saves are blown our minds have flown
To Two-oo-Thousand-Five.

For Two-oo-Thousand-Five, my friend,
For Two-oo-Thousand-Five.
Walk-off with Pods, what were the odds
In Two-oo-Thousand-Five.

And there’s a hand my trusty friend!
Give me a big high-five!
The trophy’s there, we’ll say a prayer
To Two-oo-Thousand-Five.

For Two-oo-Thousand-Five, my friend,
For Two-oo-Thousand-Five.
We still recall that wondrous fall
Of Two-oo-Thousand-Five.

Very nice!

Happy New Year!

Great stuff as always, teb. Hope to see some more stuff from you in the months and years ahead. You put our situations as Sox fans far more eloquently or creatively than I'm capable of.
