Kills our chances of singing him in free agency anytime soon.

I don't think it impacts it at all...he'd have to sign an extension first me thinks before anybody would trade for him and he's not going to do that. He'll hit the open market and the Sox have just as good a chance as anybody assuming they come up with the $$$$$. |

There’s been reports that he wants to play shortstop where ever he signs.

They would be interested if they can negotiate an extension with him obviously. Hahn also might be just putting the Sox name out there to gauge Machado's interest for next year when he is a FA. I truly believe the Sox are willing to spend big for him.

Right. It seems we are part of 4 teams that have made an inquiry. Yankes, Red Sox, us, and one other (I don't remember who).
I am not sure how I feel about giving up our prospects. They will ask for a Hansen in return. Probably won't breach our top 5. The yankees will counter with the shortstop they have in the minors, though. I don't think we have the chips to do it. Not if we do this rebuild right. I am not okay betting the farm on him. |

I heard on the radio this morning any package for him has to include two top pitching prospects.
Trading prospects for him would reek of a KW move. |

Assumed so. This won't include Kopech, but Hansen and Dunning seem to be perfect for this, and also two I am not willing to give up. At all. Dunning and Cease... maybe.

The trades ideas that Sox fans on twitter are suggesting for Machado are almost as bad as some of the trades people were throwing out there for Sale.
Someone suggested Adolfo, Burger, Yolmer, and maybe Fulmer and there are actually Sox fans saying they wouldn’t make that trade. |

AAHHH, the hot stove season is in full swing. You really have to wonder how often some of these rumors are just totally made up by scribes looking to troll.

Lot of variables at play here. On the hand you have a very good and valuable young star. On the other it is a one year rental and the Sox are going nowhere next year with or without Machado. But what if the Sox have some feeling they might be able to sign him long term? What if part of the negotiations with the Orioles is to let the prospective buyer talk with the agent to gauge the likelihood of signing him?
Without some assurance that he is signable then I wouldn't give up more than secondary prospects for him. With some assurance that it is possible I would be willing to risk a top tier guy. But one year rentals aren't worth that risk no matter who they are. Machado would be an excellent addition to the rebuild and would speed things up considerably. He is a good trade target... but a one year rental is never worth betting the farm on. Lots of variables. |

No No No No No. This is such a dumb White Sox move. WAIT UNTIL NEXT OFFSEASON and let the chips fall where they may. Rosenthal floated out there that they would part with either Kopech or Giolito, and those guys are too valuable to the rebuild for the Sox to move. There is only one way I'd commit either of those guys, and that is if the O's granted a 72 hr window to get an extension done, and the deal would only go through if Machado agreed to an extension within that window. Otherwise it is way too stupid.
