Default Braves Coppolella - Needs New Job

After 3rd consecutive 90 loss season, Coppy is gone:

http://www.ajc.com/sports/baseball/c...YFK9FbjbSFsrM/

To have such an under performing team at a brand spanking new stadium was what did it for him.

(I'm sure some will mention the Marlins - but really, nobody cares about FL baseball in FL)

I'm sure this investigation played a role in the firing.

Oops.

I did note to myself mid-season when there was all the speculation about whose system would be ranked #1, theirs or ours, that the big difference between our system and theirs was the wealth of high quality international signings they had. I wonder what that is all about.

Apparently, Coppy was not a likable person, at all.

Link

I also heard on the local news that Snitker is most likely gone, but nothing official yet. Another Link

Remember when the Braves front office were highly regarded? It feels like a trillion years ago.

But at least their concessions are better, with the new, shiny ballpark, right?

What the Braves got busted with was much worse than the Red Sox in international signings. I do need to find out how this guy weaseled his way into a GM job.
Now there are some rumors that Dayton Moore might leave the Royals to take the job with Atlanta.

Wow, they might be losing Kevin Maitan as a result of Coppy's tomfoolery.

Finally, something interesting is happening with Atlanta baseball!

12 Braves minor league players are declared free agents, including Kevin Maitan. Plus, their international signing bonus pool will be penalized through 2021.

Jesus tapdancing Christ, I knew they broke some rules, but I didn't know that it was warranting a punishment of *this* magnitude. Wow. O_O

Does anyone have a decent grasp of how this will work? Ive seen that teams can dip into next years pool... that said are we taxed/limited b/c of the Robert signing?...not that im complaining, just curious of the logistics.

That is correct, near as I can tell. The Sox have whatever money leftover from what they gave up for that Mariners RHP prospect, which is slim to none. At any rate, the Sox only had $300,000 - $500,000 left before that said trade, which wouldn't have been enough to get any prospect of value anyway.

So however awesome it would be to sign one of these prospects, the Sox don't have any bullets in the magazine to be able to sign any of them.

So, when can the Sox get back in contention for international free agents again after the Robert signing?

Coppolella banned for life...his new job won't be in baseball.

I do think that's the right punishment for cheating. I wish they'd ban Bonds, Clemens, Sosa and the rest of the 'roiders from the Hall for life and get it over with.

That guy is 38?

That guy has not aged well. I would have guessed he is about 50.

That's the real crime here I think.

They can still sign players in the 2018/2019 period, but they won't be able to exceed a bonus of $300k. In 2019/2020, they will be back up to normal levels.
