Default September Call-Ups

Seems like the Sox started this process in July! Moncada, Lopez and Delmonico should all be activated shortly. The requisite third catcher (Brantley) is already up. Anyone else? Jacob May?

I've heard rumblings about Kopech, but no one else.

Jake Peter has probably earned a call up, maybe J. May to add another glove to the outfield mix, add Holmberg to give us another LHP, maybe a spot start here and there, 2.78 ERA over his last 10 at AAA, maybe Asche (.302/.904 OPS) at AAA) to give us a LH bat if Delmonico doesn't come back soon.

This. Since Kopech will be at AAA next year anyway, there is no good reason to add him to the 40-man yet, either. What if he were to get hurt at some point in 2018? Do we really want a year of team control needlessly wasted on the DL?

I can't wait to see him up in a Sox uniform but no need to rush it. Same with bringing guys back from injury; no need to rush them back if they need an extra few days/weeks.

With the exception of May, none of the names being discussed here are on the 40-man roster.

I do think May gets a call, just to have some outfield flexibility. Sox are playing a couple infielders-by-trade in the outfield these days.

Other than that, I think you'll see a pitcher or two. The candidates are Fulmer, Danish and Goldberg. Those guys are on the 40-man.

The problem with that is that May, Fulmer, Danish, and Goldberg all suck. I don't see the point in calling any of them up.

Most players called up in September suck.

I think they should call up Fulmer and put him in the bullpen and see how he does pitching one inning at a time. That's his only chance at playing in the majors at this point. Hopefully he can experience some success and build on that.

My first reaction to calling up Fulmer was negative but he could probably use the confidence boost of management telling him they still believe in him right about now.

The only "prospect" I am interested in seeing is Jake Peter. Other than that you bring up some middling guys just for some bench depth. Brantley at catcher. Peter in the infield. May in the outfield. Holmberg for another bullpen lefty. Fulmer for a righty. I suppose Goldberg maybe but boy was he unimpressive. But mainly I think you bring Lopez, Delmonico, and maybe Moncada (what's the most recent word on him?) off the D.L. without sending anyone down. That will give you plenty of depth right there to give guys a much needed September breather.
