Default Pitcher Injury updates

Apparently Rodon has been throwing simulated games for a while now. He threw his 4th yesterday and might be headed for a rehab assignment in the coming weeks.

Petricka and Jones pitched in the simulated game also but there isn't any further info on them:

Here is the Sun-Times story on Rodon:

http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/c...ong-road-back/

What I found very interesting was Rodon saying the injury is not to his bicep...but to his shoulder.

I'd be ok with him sitting out the whole year if he comes back good to go next year. I wouldn't want him to waste his bullets on a meaningless season....not that next year will be much better if not worse : )

The biceps attach at the shoulder.

Putnam threw off a mound recently for the first time. Shields is supposed to throw off a mound today according to the story in the Sun-Times this morning.

My best guess is that for any of the pitchers on the DL, you won't be seeing any of them pitching at the big league level for another two weeks minimum.

I'd agree with that assessment especially if they both have a minor league rehab assignment thrown in there.

Dylan Covey to the DL. Juan Minaya activated for today's games.

Legit injury or not they badly needed to do something to get this guy off the mound.

Rodon is scheduled to throw 5 innings in a simulated game tomorrow.

Shields and Petricka are close to making rehab starts.

Depending on how the next 10 or so days go we could see Rodon back in mid to late June. Better than I was expecting a month ago. I know some advocate shutting him down all season, but he's still young and has a lot to gain from every bit of experience he gets before we're ready to be on a contending team (which who knows, could be as early as next year if a lot of pieces fall into place -- Avi's surge is real, Anderson takes a step forward, 4-5 guys currently in the system become MLB contributors, a cheap FA or two turn out better than expected). I say let him get his in game arm back to normal this season and poised for a breakout next year.

I have just realized that Rodon has yet to have a full season under his belt without injury.

Default Injued Pitchers Update 6/2

Here you go:

Jones - Used all pitches during bullpen session May 29, rehab assignment not imminent as of that date. Right elbow neuritis.

Petricka - Scheduled to begin rehab assignment in Charlotte, Friday night. Missed basically two months with a right lat strain suffered the first week of the season.

Putnam - Began throwing off a mound May 23, was scheduled to throw bullpen session May 29. Right elbow inflammation.

Rodon - Threw 5th simulated game on June 1. No word from the Sox on how he did, how he's feeling or what the future timetable is. Has missed entire season. Left bicep bursitis.

Shields - Threw bullpen sessions May 24, 26, 29. Could begin rehab assignment Saturday. Right lat strain.

Sox also have Dylan Covey,Tyler Saladino, Geovany Soto and Charlie Tilson on the DL.

Still nine total...and counting.
