Was just looking at WBC site and saw Pakistan had a team in the qualifier round for the first time. Apparently they are the baseball powerhouse of southern Asia. They've won the Asian Baseball Cup five times in the last six and second the other time. Of course, the cup serves as qualifier to Asian Championship where the eastern asian powerhouses routinely tear them up. You never know, Pakistan could be trouble in 30 years if baseball develops there with their cricket history.

Here's an interesting article from NYT on Pakistani team's trip to the qualifier in NYC: https://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/21/s...iers.html?_r=0

If Charlie Tilson is healthy, he'll be the favorite to be White Sox starting CF. Sox want to see what he can do.

Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 3m3 minutes ago

Hahn on ST trades: "We are going to continue to keep an open mind and where there’s conversations to be had, we will pursue them."

Colleen Kane ‏@ChiTribKane 13m13 minutes ago

Carlos Rodon says he didn't throw today because the White Sox are taking it slow with him this spring. Expects to throw Friday.

Tilson is out for 10 days with a stress reaction. If he's injury-prone...

Meh. He's unlikely to be the long-term answer to anything. I want to see him healthy and see what he can do, but it's not like we're down a key piece.

No, but if he's projected to be the everyday centerfielder, I want some damn consistency at that position. We could have had it last year if Jackson had just stayed healthy.

Note that there will be some games that have opposing team's TV or radio available, and maybe even webcasts. MLBN might have some games too.

Of note, the first game against the Dodgers will be re-broadcast on MLB Network Sunday morning at 9 AM.

After that, the White Sox wll be broadcast on the MLB Network 12 more times for Spring Training either live or re-broadcast.

Cricket skills, though, really don't translate to baseball skills. The bats and swings are wildly different. So are the balls -- although they weigh about the same, you couldn't throw a curve, let alone a knuckler, with a cricket ball, and the bowlers "pitch" with a running start. Cricketers, with one exception, also don't wear gloves on defense and tend to catch with their throwing hand when not catching with two hands. Cricket history might inspire increased baseball interest among people who migrate to baseball as a faster game (although India has modified cricket rules to make it a faster game for its televised national league).

Cricketers do have a head-start for baseball with hand-eye coordination, although it's probably not much of an edge over Irish hurlers, who play a faster game than baseball. Still, developing baseball players means bringing up generations with diamond-shaped fields with bases at 90-degree angles as their default rather than a pitch. Hard-throwing pitchers can take teams a long way, but most don't have much movement if they came to baseball from cricket.

Likewise, the best hitters in countries who pick up baseball as a second-bat sport may well have the skills to hit velocity but have had little experience with the sort of movement they would see in a world tournament.

A world baseball tournament should help develop interest in the sport, but it's probably going probably take great generational interest for a country to compete with the world with its own nationals.

Apparently Lawrie is hurt again. Renteria said he woke up this morning and that leg "didn't feel right..." It the same leg that caused him to not play after the middle of July.

He will be re-evaluated.

Maybe 100 losses is possible! Bring on that #1 draft pick!
