I would think that this would make Chris Sale a lock for the All Star Team, no matter what happens in the final vote.

They've already replaced Tanaka with Uehara.

So the pitcher spots aren't starter-reliever specific?

Abreu's gotta be the odds on AL ROY favorite now.

I was thinking the same thing. With Tanaka out of the picture for what appears to be at least six weeks, Abreu should be the favorite for AL ROY. We've already seen one injustice this season with Sale being relegated to the 32nd man vote; let's hope we don't have a second with the AL ROY voting.

Tough luck for Tanaka, but if he got the award, I bet he would have deserved it. That being said, let's see what Jose can do with this opportunity.

I would say that Tommy John surgery is pretty much inevitable here. It seems like every time a pitcher tries to go the rehab route, it never works and TJ surgery is ultimately what ends up happening.

Gonna be between Abreu and Springer, whoever has the better second half, but Abreu is the odds-on favorite now.

I wonder if Abreu's age may cost him a few votes if it's close...

This really stinks. I enjoy watching him pitch and wish him a speedy recovery.

On a side note, the Sox might have dodged a bullet by Tanaka not accepting their offer/pitch.

I know you're an Astros fan but Springer's stats aren't even close to Abreu's. Jose is at an .966 OPS, while Springer is at .818. Jose would have to have a bad second half and Springer a very good one in order to win ROY. Also, Springer is turning 25 in September - roughly only 2 yr/4 months younger than Jose - so I doubt that age will be any factor.

I was thinking the same thing; hope delaying the inevitable. He might as well have the surgery now instead of wasting 2-3 more months.
