The nostalgic meathead in me would love to see him back, but that makes no sense for this team. More a symptom of me not wanting to see Flowers at the plate anymore.

Well, I'll be the first to say it: I think he's an improvement over Flowers.

First, I loved the guy while he was here... With that being said, I want another player/catcher like AJ here, but I do not want AJ and his personality anywhere near this team.

You make a very good point. These guys all seem to have a pretty good chemistry together, and legitimately seem to like each other, which is a major building point for good teams. Obviously, they're not going anywhere this year, but the personality mix on this team seems to be a good one.

I'm surprised by this. Boston must be starting a sell-off (Peavy is rumored to be heading to St. Louis). I hope AJ catches on with a contender -- I'll always have a soft spot for him (and all the guys from the 2005 team).

Are you really a meathead for wanting to see a stop gap catcher replace the awful Tyler Flowers? Since June 1st, "Flow" is 9 for 88 (.102 avg) with 42Ks. He has been in free fall since May (24 for his last 162 with 77Ks .148 avg). Flowers is hitting for low power, his pitch framing skills rank in the bottom third of the AL, and he also leads the AL in passed balls. In short, you would be hard pressed to find a worse everyday catcher in MLB. Would a stop gap like AJ really be that bad to pick up for next to nothing?

I would be ok with him coming back. Flowers is horrible.

AJ might have cashed in for the last time....8.25 million for this year is a nice going away present for AJ and family.

I agree that the Sox will not come calling...costs too much and then there is the chemistry issue.

I guess I have to wonder why Boston made this move now...no savings.
Not like he is horrible ...still better than Tyler.

Was there anything more than anecdotal evidence to support the whole "AJ was not liked in the clubhouse" angle? Our team captain, Paul Konerko as well as Gordon Beckham remain friends with AJ despite no longer being teammates.

I'm not sure he meant AJ is a bad clubhouse guy, just that his personality might not mesh with the current group of players. Especially in a clubhouse that he was already a part of, where things are different than they were when he was last here. Just my opinion.

True. But, no one ever wants to go on the record about an ex-teammate,either.

I think AJ was tough on youngsters...like Tyler Flowers...no love lost.

If he clears waivers, it wouldnt cost the Sox much.

They've given up on the season and have a young catcher that needs to gain MLB experience. In fact, they have five rookies in the lineup tonight versus us.

This is something that we'll hopefully do soon; if we can trade some of our veteran players.
