Alexei is the only one I would worry about keeping because we have no replacement. I'm tired of Beckham and Tank's show. Danks I would sell high

That rotation looks very southpaw-ish. Not saying that is good or bad, but I'm trying to remember a rotation that had 4/5 lefty. Considering who we have coming back from injury, I think C and FA starter are my top-2 offseason moves, followed by a replacement for Dunn. Perhaps they keep Viciedo one more year, and I guess it's equably arguable that Dunn and Viciedo are traded this year.

Fixing those 4 positions is still patching a flawed operation - we'd still have little depth, mediocre defense and a below par bullpen. At injury #1, we're sunk. It's not that I'm opposed to it - we can do that but we also have a lot of other work to do.
Alexei is paid what SS of his caliber are paid by most teams, if not a little more. Jimmy Rollins' highest salary was $11 million. Aybar makes $8.5. Texas overpays Andrus, but that's their problem. Tulo makes $20 million - Alexei is not in the same stratosphere.
We can find a SS; even taking a 1 WAR hit on this, will bring in new players and improve the Sox in other positions. Alexei's 33 and there are 2 years left on his deal. Sell high.

Excellent post.

Alexei getting $20 mil/yr was the funniest post in the thread.

Apparently you have not been paying attention to what teams like the Dodgers have been spending . If Alexei was a free agent this year he would get 15-20 a year. It is stupid yes, but teams will pay it. (Yankees, tigers, LA)

Ramirez's OPS by month. Dude had 1 good month, 1 slightly above average month, and 2 terrible months. He is not a building block, centerpiece type player. Turn off the blinders.

$15-$20 mil is a huge spread. It's possible he could get $15 mil because a lot of slightly above average players get that now, but $20 mil seems far fetched.

There are only 4 SS in MLB w/ a higher WAR this season, so I'm holding out hope that the Sox can get a decent return for him.

Anyway, I do hope we can trade Dayan while he is hitting. Can we get a bag of balls for DeAza?

Oh I fully agree with you, 1000000%. My point simply was that we need to trade him while we can.

Maybe if you're talking 1 or 2 balls if a team has a few catastrophic injuries.

I know that Danks is probably one of our better chips now, but I hate to think of starting 2015 with just Sale & Quintana.

That's an interesting thought. It would all depend on what the Sox did with the money that's freed up and who we got in return.

If they were able to shed the salary of Danks to go along with the expiring contracts of Dunn, Konerko, Lindstrom, etc. I would have to assume the Sox would be active in the free agent starting pitcher market. While someone like Max Scherzer is probably a pipe dream, I could see the Sox making a play for James Shields or Justin Masterson. Also, there is a chance Rodon might crack the rotation as well.

Rick Hahn on making beneficial trades.

There will be great interest in Alexei Ramirez, as the July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline approaches, with the All-Star under contract at $10 million for 2015 and with a $10 million club option for '16.
