Sox aren't in "buy" mode. If they want McCarthy they'll buy him this offseason when he hits free agency. Salary dump for D-Backs.
A decent question is why the Yankees didn't look at Danks. Although, perhaps they will consider before the deadline.

I hope so. Getting rid of his contract and Dunns contract will be huge going into 2015

I see next year's team like this right now. The Sox have wide open holes to fill.
I think the most likely scenario is a 2B and LHP get traded for either RHP or power outfielder/DH.

Could see quite a few scenarios if the Sox traded with Toronto. There's a lot of room to swap bad contracts. A lot of complimentary parts on both sides.
Toronto needs 2B. Would consider a LH starter, and could use Dunn or Viciedo's power. Now's a good time to get talking, Encarnacion and Rasmus banged up.
If Davidson is ready you can solve the DH role with a constant rotation between Davidson (3B/DH) Gillaspie (1B,3B,DH) and Abreu (1B,DH). I wouldnt mind seeing Michael Morse in LF next season and batting 5th behind Abreu and Garcia. This offseason he signed a 1 year 6 million dollar contract. Maybe you can get him 3-4 years 8-11 million per.

There is only 1 free agent I would go after... James Shields.

I think if Shields gets a qualifying offer, he ought to take it. That would put him around $15 million. He'll be 33 this year, he's not having a good year, and has really only had 1 "ace" year in his career. I certainly wouldn't tie myself to him at $15 mill + plus loss of a pick.
If he doesn't get a qualifying offer, things get real interesting.

LOL. Shields would have to be mentally deficient to accept a qualifying offer.

Why would he take a 1 year ~14 million dollar contract when he is in line for a 5 year+ 100 million + contract?

Yea, you're probably right - Homer Bailey got one; Red Sox don't seem excited about giving Lester one, but someone probably will. to me that territory should be for consistent #1s, but I guess that's not the market.
I'm jaded by the Sox getting that level of production out of Quintana for 1/3 of the price.

Kyle Loshe, Matt Garza, Ubaldo Jimenez and Ervin Santana all rejected qualifying offers in the last two offseasons. Hardly consistent #1's. Shields will get paid, and he will be paid handsomely.

Santana signed for less than a QO; Garza didn't get a QO, but signed for slightly above what it would have been (just slightly, and, of course, no draft choice loss), Loshe took a pay cut when he signed, and Jiminez was making 1/2 of Shield's money. And none got near $20 mill.
Also remember how late, late these guys were signed last year. Someone will bite, but the market is changing.

For Beckham i'll take the rights to Pete Rose or Paul Molitor from those teams.

Its time, he had all the opportunities and he is what he is. A .240 infield
utility guy. The Sox have prospects to give a shot there, its time.

Like many other Sox fans, I had huge hopes for him. Very disappointing up to this place and time.

Have to think the Yankees are on the phone right now asking for Danks.

This may be the perfect storm to dump Danks salary and get some kind of return. I never thought it was possible, we will see now.
