Default Cubs showing signs of life?

What's with these guys lately, I think they were 15 games under .500 at one point and with their win today over the Nats they are only 8 games under.

Shark and Hammel will be gone by the deadline for the 'next big thing', and they'll be in trouble again.

They gone!

The Cubbies have White Flagged the last few seasons.

I will give credit to Theo Nathaniel Epstein, he really knows how to make the cubs pick #1 in the draft.

They've actually had success at turning random veterans into solid pitchers. They got wonders out of Jason Hammel and Scott Feldman before him. Also, I'm pretty sure they're trading Castro at some point for some pitching help. Their farm system is loaded with infielders.

I would agree with this, especially if they are saying 2016/2017 is when they'll start competing. The club getting him really has to want him though and foresee him as a future piece based on how long his contract is. Even buying out the final year, a new team would have him for five more years if traded this year.

Is it just me, because I seem to remember being bombarded on the Chicago radio airwaves and by Caplan on CSN with 2014 being the "start to see things coming around" year back when the Cubs hired Epstein and Ricketts and Theo let everyone in on their vision.

I know this is beating a dead horse- but the media treatment/coddling of the Cubs is beyond ridiculous- sports section cover stories on the new prospect from the A's (2 days in a row) and a home run in the Futures games, along with the "Core 4" regular feature.

Meanwhile- Rodon signing makes the "notes section" for the White Sox

Typical Chicago media wetting themselves over something that may never happen!

Default The Bad Guys

The bad guys are still averaging over 32,000 a game. People must obviously like what they're ownership is doing. This has got to be the first time in my lifetime that the newspapers have followed the teams farm system as much as the Big League team.

Not just the papers.

I have never seen managers reference minor league players as much as I have from both Sveum and Renteria...worked well for Dale.

Even more curious is everyday players mentioning minor leaguers as if each of those minor leaguers will not potentially take their jobs.

Marketing. The Cubs organization has it in spades.
