Default Hotels in and Around Cooperstown

I just made a reservation in Albany for two nights, about an hour away. All the hotels in Cooperstown and surrounding area were booked already, with even some on the west side of Albany booked.

I am flying into Syracuse and staying at the Turning Point casino in Verona. It's a 90 minute drive to Cooperstown, but hey, I love gambling!

I posted about this on another thread...but there is nothing near Cooperstown. You are doing the right thing driving in that day.

Correct. The problem is getting to Cooperstown the day of. It will take hours to get from NY Thruway to the town.

It will be tough getting a hotel east of cooperstown due to the saratoga meet running also. The best bet will be finding something west or south of cooperstown.

I'll be looking to book in/around Utica which is about an hour from Cooperstown.

Personally I'm not too worried about a hotel room. If I have to drive 2 hours so be it. But I'm wondering if anyone here has been to Cooperstown on an induction weekend and to give some insight and tips.

Just wanted to throw this out there for those considering going to see Thomas' induction...The town and especially the Hall of Fame are small. The area is going to be swamped with fans. I can't imagine visiting the HOF will be that enjoyable then because it'll be packed. At least to me, the idea to go that weekend would be to enjoy the induction ceremony and Big Hurt's speech. Everything else will be a battle because the area will be overwhelmed by people.

This is what I did when I visited Cooperstown. Excellent choice.

A buddy and I will be staying in the Utica area. Probably fly into Albany and rent a car. Expect to have to get to Cooperstown several hours in advance on the day of the ceremony.

I fully anticipate mass insanity but it'll all be worth it. Going to Cooperstown is going to take the place of my trip to Chicago for a weekend's worth of Sox games this season.

I spoke with an old acquaintance I know who runs a bed and breakfast in Cooperstown. Her place was booked when LaRussa, Cox and Torre were inducted in December. She also said 2015 is already booked...yikes!

Here's an interesting tidbit - it will probably be crazier than usual since Yankee fans will be flooding in for Torre...and Chicago fans for both Hurt and Maddux. She is actually looking for places to stay in the area, but did warn me that due to the demand the prices will be steep.

I will ask about any tips regarding survival for the day...stay tuned.

Not to mention Braves fans flocking in for Maddux, Glavine and Cox.

I found a place 45 miles, and one hour away, in Sidney, which is southeast of Cooperstown. Not sure if there is anything available closer, at least to the south and east. There are rooms in Albany available, but that is about an hour and 45 minutes away, but convenient for anyone who flies Southwest into Albany.

What about tickets to the actual ceremony? Do you have to become a HOF member just to get them or can anyone go?
