Default Starting Rotation

Andre Rienzo's future in the Sox rotation is in question. The most likely option to replace Rienzo, would be to move pitcher Scott Carroll from long-relief duty into the starting rotation.

That would be the option is to flip-flop," Ventura said. "Right now, I don't know if you can just put Andre out in the bullpen. The way Scotty throws strikes, you like if you are going to bring a guy in out of the bullpen, he's going to be able to do what Scotty has done."

I wouldn't pull Carroll back into the rotation. He is an effective MR, but he gets hit the 2nd and 3rd time through a lineup. He has been great as a reliever.

I think by now we realize we are not a real contender this year, and I would get Johnson back up here to get work at the big league level.

Johnson has a 6.00+ ERA at AAA- 7.08 ERA over his past 10 starts- he doesn't belong anywhere near the major leagues.

He still has a lot of talent and working with coop >>>> working with our AAA pitching coach.

Moving Johnson back to the Majors would be an investment in his future, if they don't think he's hurt and the Sox's 2014 ship is taking on water, may as well get him up here so he can work out his kinks in the Majors and they can really evaluate him against MLB pitching.

Reinzo and Carroll are both nice pitchers, they fill the long-man/spot starter role pretty well but neither (in my amateur opinion) has the stuff to be a reliable, 30+ start per year SP here. I don't even need them to be spectacular, between Sale, Rodon, and Quintana that's enough "stuff" at the top of a rotation, we need guys who can just effectively eat innings. Time to find someone who can.

Erik Johnson looks like a reliever to me.

tough as it is...gotta hang in there with Rienzo....either he gets better or pitches his way out of the league. Either way, we get confirmation of the moves needed next year.

Unfortunately I think it will be option C. I think his near-term future is as a long reliever bullpen spot. Although if Option A happens and he gets better, that would be awesome.

I think It's time to see what we have in Surkamp. He has some big K/9 numbers and people forget prior TJ surgery he was a real prospect in the Giants system

Dan Hayes ‏@DanHayesCSN

#WhiteSox sticking with Ronald Belisario at closer, per Robin Ventura. Also, Scott Carroll to start Thursday. Andre Rienzo to bullpen.

Just took a look at his peripherals - you are right. That BABIP against is unsustainable. He hasn't walked many and is striking out the world. Has kept the ball in the park, too.

There has to be something physically wrong with Johnson. His stuff is nowhere near the same and his velocity is way down.

What a joke. Good old predictable, do nothing, Robin. He just tries to prove day in, day out, that he has zero clue.

Default Scott Carroll starts Thursday

Ventura saw Carroll find enough consistency out of the bullpen to warrant his return to the rotation. This move, he hopes, will let Rienzo do the same.

"At this point, it's probably better for Rienzo to take a break," Ventura said, "go to the bullpen and figure it out."
