This has me confused

Q: Who do you think the Chicago White Sox are going to unload to lower their payroll? I have heard rumors of Magglio Ordonez. To me that would be a mistake. I would much rather see a Paul Konerko and James Baldwin go. Your thoughts? -- Chris McVady, Addison, Ill.

PWG: I don't see how they can unload right now, because the wild card is not out of reach. Realistically, they probably cannot make it, but another white-flag deal would be a PR nightmare. However, they are not going to sign Ordonez long-term, and he and Keith Foulke each could be gone by Jan. 1.

I'm getting tired of seeing this, why is Maggs NOT getting a contract? I would like to see this from a new source, someone besisdes ESPN. If we lose these guys to FA, its not even worth watching next year. Trade Foulke is you just have to cut payroll, but don't let BOTH slip away into the market.

C) If Ordonez and Foulke go, this team is sunk. It will be a swift and painful trip to the cellar. I hope Mr. Reinsdorf likes having only 10,000 people show up to the games, because I guarantee that will be the average crowd if Ordonez and Foulke leave.

I'm almost 100% positive that Foulke is arbitraton eligible after this season. As for Magglio, he signed a 1-year deal in the off-season, so he is an FA at the end of this year.

No, I'm pretty sure Magglio isn't a free agent until after the 2003 season. The only reason he signed a one year deal was to avoid arbitration.

As far as Foulke goes(I'll hear hell about this)a 2 pitch pitcher is not worth 7-9 mil a season.Trade him.

Ventura was expendable because we had a hot-shot minor leaguer (Crede) and a short-term replacement (Norton).

Who do we have in the minors to replace Foulke? Edwin Almonte? Who could fill in? Bobby Howry? Jon Garland?

I've heard Barcelo's name mentioned as a future closer. Im sort of with Daver here but not for the same reason. Foulke only has two pitchers, but Randy Johnson only has two also. However, hes a closer, and with Reinsdorf being unwilling to keep a high payroll until the attendance rises, if we give Foulke that much money we may lose another, more important player.

Barcelo is coming off like his 3rd surgery and he's only 23.
