Quintana just cannot catch a break. Will he ever do so consistently here?

Maybe when they put a better team behind him.

Even with Kershaw going for the Dodgers, this was a winnable game. The Sox just kicked this one away, plain and simple.

Should have won 2-0. Plain and simple.

Gillaspie had no business throwing the ball on that play. Take the 2 steps, tag third, get the force and go into the dugout. Sickening defense.

I saw Quintana's face in the 7th, he looked pissed and I don't blame him. He got screwed.

5 runs allowed and not one of them earned, good heavens.

Yeah, he had an easy play right in front of him and refused to take it for some reason. Even though it was a bad decision to make a throw, it was still a routine throw that should have been executed for the third out. He screwed the pooch.

The ball Kemp hit earlier should have been an easy DP too. Quintana had to get six outs in that inning.

Looney Tunes out there tonight.

A ridiculously dumb defensive performance. Beckham can't be bothered to bend or get in front of a ball and Gillaspie pulls a Little League boner to screw Quintana, who was smartly outpitching Kershaw and deserved to win the game.

If anyone has been paying attention, this team is just about as dumb as last year's team. Abreu's hitting has covered up a lot of that. I'm sick of watching the idiocy of Ventura's teams. The White Sox were never this stupid, even under Bevington and Manuel.

In order to avoid being furious, I've convinced myself that we don't actually know this. In a 2-0 game, we might use our bullpen differently, and they get a chance in the 9th, and who knows what would have happened? I mean, yes, that game was bull****, we all know that, but I bet we would have blown the save anyway. We'll never know.

Team is on pace to commit more errors than last year.

So check another one off the box that has not improved with this coaching staff.

I think this is more about roster construction than the coaching staff- one of the reasons I see Gillaspie as a "super sub" (LH option at 3rd/1B/DH) is his limitations on defense-

Hahn has prioritized offense in his acquisitions- with only Eaton bringing plus-defense.

Alot of people are advocating "selling high" and trading Ramirez and Beckham for prospects- with Sanchez as the only prospect who brings a decent glove (vs. Semian, Johnson, Davidson)- it will get worse before it gets better.

That easily could have been a game from last year:
All the offense comes from one swing
Q gets screwed
Mental and on field errors blow the game open for the other team

This version is better than the 2013 version, but they're still not good.

To be fair to Gillaspie, that was more of a mental mistake than a physical one that he made last night. Also, he has been pretty darn serviceable at 3B this year. I can't think of any other game besides last night where his defense cost us. Granted, it was a HUGE mistake he made last night.

They aren't good but they aren't bad either. They are right in the middle. I have a feeling the Sox are going to be playing this "tease" baseball with us all season. They are going to win 3 or 4 in a row and look like world beaters and then drop 2 or 3 in a row and bring us all back to reality. The proof is in the stats. The Sox have been at .500 mark 17 times this season if I remember correctly.

Gillaspies metal mistake was big but his bad throw could have been scooped by a good 1st baseman. Beckham not bending down was big also. Beckham is overrated as a good defensive 2nd baseman in my eyes, his range is limited and is not quick, his arm sometimes makes up for these shortcomings. This could have been a big win against one of the best pitchers in baseball.
