Oh, this wasn't really on the bullpen. This was on the defense.

Dyson and Gore are like modern-day Miguel Dilone. Unbelievable.

Bullpen bullpen bullpen. And defense defense defense.

Between the two we've given away at least 20 games this year, I swear

It seems like more games blown this year than I can ever remember. Depressing.

Whatever Robin went out there to say didn't help at all.

This season and the Robin Ventura disaster can't end soon enough.

Which raises the question: is this team really that much different from last year? It's really just Eaton and Abreu. Everything else stayed the same.

One thing the Royals do very well is they force teams to make plays. That ability to put pressure on the defense to make plays is something that doesn't show up in the box score (or in any sabrmetric I am aware of) but it is a big, big deal.

Speed kills. So does scoring 3 runs against a decent team.

Wasted Danks's best, or second best, outing of the season (pitched 8 scoreless innings in NY on May 24, giving up only 3 hits, only to have the Sox lose in 10).

Just Eaton and Abreu? Not to be a dick, but those are two pretty significant upgrades, don't you think?

Even if those are the only two improvements they've made in the past 12 months, an MVP-caliber No. 3 hitter and a top-notch leadoff hitter are two very important pieces to add.

There is a long way to go to get back to contention, but they are in much better shape now than they were last September.

Their bullpen plan blew up on them this year. The four veterans they were counting on (Jones, Lindstrom, Belisario, Downs) at the start of the year were injured, bad or both. If even two of those four pitchers has a decent year, this is a .500 team.

That didn't happen, and the relief corps does indeed require a major overhaul, but at least there is more money to spend now that some of the dead weight (Dunn, De Aza, Beckham) has been moved out of the way.

I know people want to kill themselves because it's been tough since Aug. 1, but this is what rebuilding is.

So let me see if I've got this straight. Every year down the road the Sox will add, best case scenario, a couple of pieces here and there and be better somewhat than the previous year, but still be out of contention. But the fans should just chill, because this is what rebuilding is. Thanks for talking me off the ledge

And how much of a window do you think exists for the current achievers to still be achieving at this level by the time all the pieces are in place according to your "rebuilding" plan?
