Default Angels to extend Trout

6 years, $140 Million per multiple sources.

If he keeps up what he's been doing that's an absolute bargain for the Angels.

I agree 110%. Unlike Cabrera, Trout can play all-star defense to match his offense. You've got to think that in 6 years, Trout will still be playing at an elite level and hitting his stride. He's a special player that you build a team around and that's just what the Halos are doing.

So that's how you sign a guy to an extension without looking like a jackass.

Good deal for both sides mostly because Trout is on schedule to be an FA at 28 years old.

Quite the catch for the Angels.

Default #1 Draft Choices

Just think the White Sox had the opportunity to draft Mike Trout, instead they drafted Jared Mitchell. Imagine Trout playing for the White Sox. The entire perception of the team and franchise would be different.

Even worse, the Angels have now established themselves as THE team to play for if you are a slugger whose last name is a type of fish. Even if the Sox successfully draft an outfielder named Haddock or an explosive leadoff man nicknamed "Bluegill", they'll go to Anaheim in free agency.

Though not a slugger, let us not forget Steve Trout.

Is that true? If it is, whoever made the decision needs to be handed his check and pointed to the door.

Full disclosure:

23 teams passed on Trout (the Angels had a pick right before they grabbed Trout). It wasn't just the White Sox.

And yet HomeFish is posting here, not at AngelsInteractive!

If it makes you feel better, it was probably the same guy who drafted Chris Sale after 12 other teams took a pass.

The MLB draft is probably the biggest crapshoot of any of the four major sports. There are maybe 2 to 3 surefire superstars in most draft years.

I don't even know if there are that many! Think of how many of those surefire superstars have burnt out.

But now we've got Garcia and Abreu. Not saying their Trout, but give it some time, I think we've got a good core going to build around, short of a catcher. I would hope that is Hahn's next priority though.
