Default 2014 White Sox 25 Man Roster

My take on this year's 25 man roster as we break camp (I'm assuming Keppinger is on DL, but Beckham is OK by then).

I don't see room for L. Garcia/M. Semian for utility infielder/speed off the bench- hopefully we can find someone who wants Dunn to free up a space.

Not sure what we do with Keppinger if/when he's healthy-

Pitching
1. Sale
2. Danks
3. Quintana
4. Johnson
5. Paulino
6. Jones
7. Lindstrom
8. Belisario
9. Boggs
10. Downs
11. Veal
12. Rienzo

Infield/DH
13. Dunn
14. Konerko
15. Abreu
16. Beckham
17. Ramirez
18. Davidson
19. Gillaspie

Outfield
20. Viciedo
21. Eaton
22. A. Garcia
23. De Aza

Catcher
24. Flowers
25. Phegley

DL/Bubble:
Keppinger, Semian, L. Garcia, D. Webb, A. Nieto, J. Danks

If Keppinger starts the season on the DL, Davidson has to be the one to go down when he comes back. Gillaspie's out of options.

I think Semian is going to be on the team one way or the other. Davidson might go to the minors for a short time.

I don't think it's a good idea for Keppinger to be on the roster ever again.

I also don't think Hahn is done trading before Opening Day.

I would have liked to see at least one of these 3 traded before camp is over, Beckham, Keppinger, Gillaspie. Very difficult to trade guys injured, Beckham and Keppinger. Gillaspie would get zero return basically the same as a cut. Beckham may be the only one that could have gotten some return but not now. The wildcard is Ramirez, he does have worth and would open a spot.

Unfortunately, everyone saw this coming months ago with the Paulie situation. You're carrying an extra DH right now, so the sacrifice has to be either the 7th bullpen pitcher or a utility middle infielder that could play two or three positions. Gillaspie's not a real backup at SS or 2B; Beckham's not a real backup at SS (which would put Gillaspie at 2B out of position).

The other option would be to let Gillaspie go and bring Davidson and Semien up for Opening Day.

Yeah, unfortunately the only way the infield situation works out without somebody getting cut is if we can get 150 games out of both Beckham and Ramirez, which while unlikely is still a possibility, I suppose.

My gut feeling is that Davidson starts out in AAA, with L. Garcia starting up with the big club. I think Gillaspie will be DFA'd when Keppinger is ready (unless he really shows something unexpected), and Garcia will be sent back down if/when Davidson shows himself to be ready for the show.

The lack of both a backup SS and a backup 2b seems a bit unworkable. And is Paulino locked in to the rotation? He seems like garbage. And what about Beck, is he not even bubble worthy? Honest question. I thought he had an outside shot.

My money's on Webb making the cut, too.

You'll have either Gillaspie or Davidson on the opening day roster, not both. With 3 1B/DH types, you can't also have 2 guys that only play 3B. Think Davidson starts in AAA and either Semien or L. Garcia is the backup IF.

I see Davidson in AAA, L Garcia up in this place....possibly Semien. No need to rush Davidson nor have him sit on a bench.
I see Phegley in AAA, Neito up. I'd prefer Phegley and let Nieto play every day in the minors, but that would require a trade and the Nats GM is not always accommodating.
The only way J Danks makes this teams is if Viciedo or De Aza get moved or go on the DL.

I think Davidson is starting out in Charlotte if only because of his Super two status.

I think Garcia will be the backup shortstop and utility guy.

I agree with this- IF we can find takers for Dunn and Keppinger- then the roster opens up a little- then Davidson comes up-

A DL'd Beckham.

I predict Gillaspie will be the starting third baseman on Opening Day, but will not last the season. Davidson will start the season in the minors, but be called up to make the most starts at third.

I think if they had their way the Sox would have both Semien and Davidson playing every day in Charlotte. That leaves L Garcia as the super sub and backup SS. You could also see Cleto making the roster since he's out of options.
