Default Expansion of Instant Replay

MLB ‏@MLB 4m
All 30 @MLB clubs have unanimously approved expansion of instant replay, which will be in effect for the 2014 season and 2014 #postseason.

MLB Public Relations ‏@MLB_PR
As part of expansion of instant replay, Clubs will now be allowed to show all replays on ballpark scoreboard, even those not reviewed.

MLBPA & World Umpires Assoc have also agreed.

MLB ‏@MLB 4m
Managers will have at least one instant replay challenge to use during a game (1/3).

If any portion of challenged play is overturned, manager who challenged the play will retain ability to challenge 1 more play in game (2/3).

No manager may challenge more than two plays in a game (3/3).

After the beginning of the seventh inning, the umpire crew chief may choose to invoke instant replay on any reviewable call.

They should review any play they want. Putting limits on it and decision making by managers is ridiculous. Get as many calls as possible right. Period.

Umpiring should be electronic. I am not kidding.

If for no other reason than to hear Hawk and the other old timers complain about computers every time a call goes against the Sox.

THIS ROBO-UMPIRE DOESN'T KNOW THE FIRST THING ABOUT THE GAME OF BASEBALL OR EMOTION AND I THINK HE'S GOING TO STEAL MY HEART PILLS WHILE I SLEEP

No doubt, the end of the 2005 World Series would have been reviewed.

How awkward would that have been? Still great, but talk about weird.

I'd like to be the first to welcome MLB to 1998.

I would vote for this over instant replay.

Yeah, that was a generous call, but it probably just delayed the inevitable.

But the Pierzynski dropped 3rd strike...............

Edit: I just read the press release and I guess that dropped 3rd wouldn't have been a reviewable play.

The runner was out by a hair, but with replay available, I'm not sure how the ump would have called it in Houston. So the players would have been standing there waiting to find out if they won the World Series.

The Jermaine Dye phantom HBP that preceded Konerko's grand slam in Game 2 would have been reviewable. And, IIRC, it was pretty obvious in the replays shown that the ball didn't touch Dye.

Yes. It was more than conclusive that the ball hit the bat.
