Default Ted Lilly rejoins Cubs

As special assistant to president/general manager.
Lilly will spend time with the club during spring training, visit the minor league affiliates during the season, evaluate amateur players leading up to the draft and perform professional scouting assignments.

He will also be teaching young pitchers the art of spiking the glove after giving up a long one.

This cannot be true, I have been assured on this board that only the Sox gave token front office jobs to popular former players.

Was Ted Lilly popular? I always thought he was waaaay behind guys like Zambrano, Soriano, Ramirez, Lee, Wood, even Marmol.

I wouldn't exactly look to the Cubs as a good example of how to do things.

- Poor play in spring training doesn't matter (2005!)
- It's still April
- It's only May
- Wait until Memorial Day before worrying about anything
- Wait until the weather gets warmer
- Still time to turn things around in 2nd half
- In Aug/Sept: Too late to complain about poor performance earlier this season.
