Default Sox sign Scott Downs

Sox sign Scott Downs to a one year contract. From the press release:

The White Sox and left-handed reliever Scott Downs have agreed to terms on a one-year contract. Downs, 37, combined to go 4-4 with a 2.49 ERA (12 ER/43.1 IP), 37 strikeouts and 26 holds in 68 appearances last season between the Los Angeles Angels and Atlanta Braves. He tied for 10th in the major leagues in holds.

"Downs provides us with some balance to our bullpen and another veteran arm for Robin to call upon late in games," said Rick Hahn, White Sox senior vice president/general manager. "Scott's impact will not only be felt on the field, but given his makeup and leadership skills it will be felt in the clubhouse and bullpen as well."

I think you are wrong. A $250,000 option is nothing and give you control for next year. It is a plus for trades if need be.

New White Sox pitcher Scott Downs talks about his return to Chicago 14 years after he debuted with Cubs. http://bit.ly/1dw3TjZ

He is not certain what his role will be with the Sox, but he said after talking with general manager Rick Hahn, he believes he could have the opportunity to be a setup man.
