I like our young outfield for 2014- Viciedo (24), Eaton (25), Garcia (22).

Young rotation- Sale (24), Quintana (24), E. Johnson (24)

I like that Jordan Danks and De Aza drift further down the depth chart-I don't think Danks is anything more than a AAAA player- I do like De Aza as a 4th OF (not as a starter).

So far- Hahn has made some very promising moves going back to the Peavy trade- so it's nice to be a little optimistic again.

Next on my wishlist- a real major league 3rd baseman and a real major league catcher- get Keppinger off the roster and send either Phegley or Flowers back to AAA as org depth.

Great move. I really like what they're trying to do here, even if Eaton never reaches his full potential. Santiago was a nice piece, but when your only strength is pitching and you have needs everywhere else, it's pretty obvious trades are going to involve us giving up pitching.

There's some good write up's on Hawkins floating around, including one that goes from AB to AB throughout several games. His recognition of sliders is terrible, but there is evidence it's improving. He had an atrocious year, but was the second youngest player in his league and hit the second most HR's. He's still a prospect based on age and tools alone.

Although I do not think BA is worth much, I have seen no such article from them declaring that Hawkins was no longer on the prospect radar.

His power remains impressive and he's quite young, but we'll have to see how the Sox handle him going forward."

There's no one taking him off of prospect lists, he's too young.

Had the same thought, and frankly given the derailment of the thread into the minutia of the value of a walk vs. a hit and Courtney Hawkins, it may as well have.

Seeing some Twitter posts that seem to indicate we may also be sending Brandon Jacobs (whom we got in the Thornton trade, I believe) to Arizona. Unconfirmed.

Of course, this all depends, as you have said on said player's slugging %. However all else equal I see his point. You don't score runner on 2nd or 3rd by talking a walk, but you do by hitting a single.
You make more outs putting the ball in play too. Not just yourself. If you're talking a pitch, you can't be doubled up. There's two sides to that argument and generally those things tend to even out. Most would agree the guy with a .340 obp is simply a worse overall hitter.

No wonder he was at the top of Hahn's list.

They're saying we're sending Brandon Jacobs to Arizona as well. That's okay, i guess.

For B.A. I believe it was in someone's after season update. Let me see if I can find it when I get home.

Wow... not sure why I bothered doing this to my hopes and expectations:

Eaton Minor League stats:

.348.450.501.951

Frank Thomas Minor League stats:

.306.447.506.952

But to balance that out - here's a depressing scouting report..

http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/...ort-adam-eaton

Sounds a lot like Aaron Rowand to me. 4th outfielder who gives max effort to barely fit the range of a CFer. His arm seems to be weak though and they are saying no power. Sounds like he has a good eye and bat though, just gets dominated by lefties.

And yet upthread there is a vid of him throwing a runner out returning to first on the fly from the CF warninf track, so maybe his arm isn't so bad???
