I love Paulie but this move aggravates the hell out of me. I want the team to get younger and more athletic -- isn't that why we traded Peavy, Rios, Thornton, Crain etc.?

Bunch of overreaction to something that really isn't that big of a deal. Both literally and figuratively.

Because the Sox aren't making the big, splashy moved theYankees, Tigers, etc. are making. This isn'ta bad move, for the reasons Hahn indicated. You're right.it makes too much sense to not do.

Based on Paulie's comment which talked about his "new role" helping his teammates and also playing, it sounds an awful lot like he's going to be a player/coach.

If he is there in a coaching capacity to help Abreu adjust and also play a little too, I don't mind the signing at all. If anything Konerko deserves a farewell season for all he has done for the organization. Plus his presence isn't hurting anything because the Sox aren't expected to contend anyway.

So just hire him as a coach, then. If Flowers returns the Sox will basically have 4 DHs, only one of whom is a decent hitter and even then we don't know what Abreu will bring.

Just looking at it from the point of a diehard Sox fan, my favorite team did the right thing in bringing back one of the most successful players in franchise history.

I know Konerko isn't the Konerko of 2005, but as I posted earlier, I'm glad his last at-bat at the Cell won't be a crappy pop-up to first against Kansas City.

This runs contrary to a lot of people's opinions, but I'm happy Konerko will get one more season with the Sox. This is as it should be.

Because it's a complete waste of a roster spot?

When you make moves like this, you can't even pretend like you're trying to fix anything

Given Hahn's comments, this seems like a no-brainer. Bat him primarily against lefties and he'll be well worth the money.

My thoughts are, Reinsdorf is still hurting for the way Fisk was let go.

He wants to make up for sending a fan favorite,(Fisk) packing, before the player is ready to walk.

Hopefully, they have a plan to dump Dunn and eat most of his salary as we all know, he will not be missed...!!!

You're right, it'll be some crappy pop up to first in whatever his last game is

I'm glad you have the ability to see into the future unlike the rest of us commoners.

Who wins the Super Bowl in February? Does Cutler remain a Bear? Please tell us what's going to happen.

I see it. I don't see the rationale behind it other than...

...Sentiment is no way to run a team. As Branch Rickey said, better to get rid of a player a year too early than a year too late. The Sox just guaranteed a roster spot to a year too late.

Nice one. My point is Konerko was the worst starting position player in the entire league last year, so chances are his last AB next year will be terrible as well.
