Default Sox, Konerko agree to 1-year, $2.5 million deal

Meh - as with everything White Sox ... bringing him back has managed to make me feel nothing. No excitement. No anger. No happiness. Just apathy.

I hope he has something left.
He'll spend a fair amount of time glued to bench learning how to coach. I think he'll be a hitting coach shortly after retiring with someone and I wouldn't be surprised if it was with the Sox. Maybe he starts in the minors or takes a first base coaching slot while he figures out the ins and outs, but eventually he'll climb the coaching ladder, IMO.

The Sox have no use for Konerko. But when the kept Ventura manager they threw in the towel for the season... So take care of all of the legacies and loyalties this year and be free and clear for 2015

I hope this isn't true. I don't want to see a redux of Carlton Fisk in 1993 -- .189 average and one home run when released mid-season. Granted (1)Pudge was a lot older in 1993 than Paulie will be in 2014 and (2) the Sox were contending in 1993 when Fisk was released, but I fear that this will not end well for Paulie and would make the Sox roster unamanageable as presently composed.

A Paul Konerko Farewell Tour will put butts in the seats during a bad 2014 season. Marketing move, not a baseball move.

Bruce Levine reported on WSCR that the money is $1.5M for 2014 and another $1M deferred through 2021.

So in terms of pay for next year, Paulie's will be making $550,000 more than Tyler Flowers. I got now problem with that. I'm just amazed he came back for that little.

In related news, Sox announce that they've signed Ventura and Baines to player-coach contracts and moving them to 3B and LF, respectively.

Catch the Fever.

Doesn't watching other teams make a bunch of moves just make you feel great about the season?

The Bulls and the Sox are both tanking.
